dark tense medium-paced

While I loved the characters of Amara and Dante in the first two books this one is a disappointing. It’s rushed but slow, it’s well written but then filled with errors, and overall just not good. “My king” and “my queen” had me physically cringing through the entire book. But jokes on me because I’m going to keep reading this series💀

HOLY MACARONI!!
OKAY THIS WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST TWO! WOW. I’m glad we moved on from Morana and Tristan’s POV. I LOVED all the backstory to Dante and Amara. This book added to many different twists and turns I felt like my head might explode. I’m so glad I kept reading after the first book even though I had many qualms with it.

Amara is so relatable, while she went through so much trauma in her life she was resilient and worked through her trauma. Her and Dante are the very definition of soulmates. The build up of their love story is swoon worthy.

I didn't like this one quite as much. The backstory was great to finally get to know but the brutality came out a little more. I was glad to get two POVs

A little disappointed honestly

I was looking forward to this book because this is the one I've seen the most about on social media. I feel like I may have gotten my hopes up too high. I didn't really find their story all that compelling. I think I was expecting more angsty from between their then and now, and when there wasn't I was disappointed by the lack of tension. The beginning was definitely a lot better than the end, but still not good enough to push the rating up.

Also, how many times can one person be kidnapped? Like now this is your fault, how are we not taking steps to prevent this. How do you get caught slacking SO many times???? It was honestly just so annoying. Because any time there needed to be action it was just oh yay lets have her abducted AGAIN. boring tbh.

Finally got to Dante & Amara’s story! I had high expectations for them, and they didn’t disappoint. The Emperor takes us to the past and how they grew up around each other. I’ve been curious about Amara since I first met her and since Runyx gave us a glimpse of the scar on her throat. With Dante, I wanted to know who he really was besides being the overprotective older brother he became for Morana. He had a particular dark appeal to his character and this book served that well.

The writing also handled Amara’s trauma very well and I appreciate how it didn’t have to romanticize her fears to further the story. I don’t read a lot of dark romance books, so DV is now very special to me. I know other readers have said the pregnancy trope ruined them, but I disagree because it was bound to happen anyway. Dante was to inherit and rebuild his father’s fucked up legacy with Amara at his side. All the pieces are finally falling into place, and the introduction to Alpha’s character just hypes me up to read The Finisher.

I really liked that the story was told from the beginning, not just where the last book in the series left off. Honestly, Amara is a badass and Dante was great too. Side note, I was not expecting to like Tristan more because of this book, but that is what happened.

Dark Romance, Mafia, Girl Falls First Boy Falls Harder, 3 1/2 🔥
