Wow. Where to even begin... This was such a fantastic book. Harrow's writing is some of the most eloquent that I've read.
I wasn't sure how I was going to like it at first. The use of present tense felt a little awkward, and it takes place during a period of time that isn't of much interest to me.
BUT... that being said, I found myself quickly immersed in the book. I was continually in awe of Harrow's splendid use of language. And the book really is a true celebration of women. It also nods towards minorities and people of different sexual orientations and gender identities. This really is a superbly written book.

It was alright. I think I would have liked it a lot more as a teenager than as an adult, and frankly I was surprised that this was considered to be targeted toward adults rather than YA. I think it all just felt a little too obvious and on the nose for me as far as feminist literature goes.

WITCH SISTERS! I repeat: WITCH SISTERS! There’s not much more to say about this one. It’s so delightfully fun. It’s about magic and women and suffragists and mayyyybe lesbians.

Harrow's book, The Ten Thousand Doors of January, was a favorite of mine about a year ago. The Once and Future Witches did not work as well for me. Harrow split the narrative between three sisters' perspectives, and that often dilutes my feeling of absorption in the narrative (it did here). Even though I think that objectively it was a fairly original plot, TTTDoJ was so very original that I found TO&FWless compelling, less seemingly new. Whereas I wholeheartedly recommend TTTDoJ to my reading friends, I would tend to recommend TO&FWmore to those who are genre fans.
