After reading the authors previous book Neena Lee Is Seeing Things I was so excited to get my hands on her latest!! The author does an incredible job writing memorable characters.

Mae Van Dorn has been let down throughout her life and now let’s add betrayal from her boyfriend to her list. Now an invitation from her estranged brother to stay with him just may offer a fresh start she’s looking for, but also no job and no money doesn’t lead many other options. When Mae finds a job working for the founder of the local megachurch , it’s a soon apparent he may not be quite as Christian as he should be. But others around the town just may give her the sight, that not all people are deceitful and they may just want to be helpful and kind. When she meets Ezra Watts, the handsome construction company owner who’s remodeling the deck at the pastor’s waterfront mansion things begin to look up. Not long after all this things take a spin when a hurricane makes landfall nearby. This story has heart and friendship and so much more..

I really enjoyed Neena Lee Is Seeing Things and could not wait to pick up the newest story by author Sheila Athens. Mae finds herself living with her estranged brother; it’s not really what she has planned for herself. She’s working for the founder of a giant church, and while he may not be the best person, there are other people who soften Mae and give her the support she’s long needed.

As things are potentially looking up, Mae also meets Ezra, the contractor working on the pastor’s house. Not long after that, though, things are rocky again and really take a spin when a hurricane makes landfall nearby.

Just as said in the synopsis, Mae Van Dorn’s Perfect storm is an easy story filled with charm and heart. I thoroughly enjoyed Mae’s story and can’t wait for what’s next from Sheila Athens.

I received a gifted copy.

The title really paints a great picture for the story inside!

Mae was fired from her job through a disastrous aired grievance about a large donor and in order to find work where her old boss (hopefully) can't influence, she ends up hours away with her half brother. There she gets a job working for a minister of a megachurch who may not be in the up and up. She meets a man she could fall for and a Cat 5 hurricane to contend with.

I liked the magical realism where Mae Van can tell if a person has bad intentions because she sees a silver haze around their face. I loved that most people in this book helped Mae restore her faith in humanity. The ending scene where she openly defies her boss at the church during the hurricane *chef's kiss* I really loved this scene. Mae is such an amazing character.
