Inspiring and motivating, this book shares Kamalas commitment to community, justice and being honest and upfront.
Kamalas rise from internship in Oakland to being District Attorney of San Francisco is truly amazing. She shares her formation of Back On Track, a program for nonviolent offenders in prison, adopted by Obama. Her call to reform the bail system and racial bias in police departments, Elementary School Truancy, mortgage/ foreclosure fraud and immigration reform are important issues, for her and for.us, as a community of people.
Health care and mental health care need reform, our wage/ salary limits need to be revised and our cybersecurity should be the biggest issues today. She is not afraid of the truth, or being transparent.
Harris dedication and support of her family, esp when her mother was diagnosed with cancer, is touching. I love her vision of a more equal, inclusive and honest world for all of us. I feel I understand her and her platform, her beliefs and vision much more after reading.
There are many reasons to support her- it will be refreshing to see someone of substance running for President. We've needed one for several years now!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Madame Vice President Kamala Harris.

This woman is incredible. She is intelligent, engaging, and has such strong convictions and beliefs. It was a joy to listen to her narrate this book.

Lots of stories of Kamala's upbringing, view of the world and leadership. I have enjoyed Kamala's life growing up in Oakland, California. How she become a district attorney then a senator.

On the one hand this felt like reading a long LinkedIn post about all Kamala's achievements. LinkedIn posts always kind off annoy me because it feels like people are 'bragging' and painting a perfect picture thats (almost) never the full truth. The same goes for this book. I would have liked to know what her experience is as a woman in politics, what makes her insecure, what initiatives failed and what she learned from it. The way it was written now, it seems like she has done everything perfect in life and her career. Thats not relatable.

On the other hand, her story does inspire. She has dedicated her life to making the world a better place. And reading this book makes me want to put more effort into being part of the solution as well.

i wish that kamala did not grandstand so much in this book. i would have much rather have read about her struggles, rather than a breakdown on her major policy points. i wish she also included more writing about how disenfranchised she has felt, because these moments display her depth as a person

I think this was a dead average political memoir. Harris does add some personal stories but largely focuses on her most important issues and how she has and wants to continue to address them. I did learn more about her than I knew before but nothing truly revelatory. I would only recommend this book to people who are specifically interested in her and not a more general audience.

Before reading this book I knew little of Kamala Harris other than her unflinching questioning and dedication in the Senate. I finished this book with a strong sense of who she is, what she believes and what she’s capable of.

Harris is a force to reckon with, both in the Senate and on the national stage. Her belief in and work for the American Justice System is both inspiring and honest.

A good intro to Kamala Harris as a candidate. She doesn't deal with all the controversial stuff, but I wouldn't expect her to in a book like this. Does a good job laying out her positions on a wide array of issues and why she thinks those issues are important.

I found the parts about her personal life more interesting than the professional portions, though I have admiration and respect for her accomplishments and intentions.

"A patriot is not someone who condones the conduct of our country, whatever it does. It is someone who fights every day for the ideals of our country, whatever it takes."

U.S. Senator Kamala Harris shares her upbringing and ideology in this memoir of her rise to the Senate. At the time of this writing, in the summer of 2020, much of what Senator Harris wrote in 2018 proved to be almost prophetic, including her support of the Black Lives Matter movement and healthcare reform in the face of a pandemic. As with most books published by presidential candidates to help voters get to know them better, this book focused on her many accomplishments and political stances, though I got the feeling that there was still much more I would have liked to learn about her. I would have loved to hear more about her personal beliefs and views on life in a philosophical sense, but perhaps that will be for a future book. If you are reading this book, you are reading it to better understand who Kamala Harris is and for what she stands. This book will accomplish that mission. My opinion of her did not change after reading this, but instead it solidified: I view her as a formidable woman who cares deeply about the issues facing America, both today and in the future.
