I became immersed in this book. I enjoyed reading about the real world and the fantasy world, meeting the characters, and seeing the story unfold.

It’s more of a 2.5 stars but Goodreads doesn’t have a half system. It’s not enough to boost it to a three though.

I’m not sure what is it about this book but I found it to be very boring. Maybe it was because I listened to it in audio (not my preferred way of reading but sometimes I give it a go), but there were many times were I kept zoning out. The characters were very empty, no one seemed concerned about the way the main character was behaving and the writing was to simplistic for my taste. As a huge book nerd, it the title that caught my attention, which I’m sure that was the case for many people that picked up this book, but the back and forth between two lives is what really caught my attention. It unfortunately let me down completely since the two timelines pretty much led to nowhere.

There were certain issues that the author was trying to show within the book (little rights for women, certain mental disabilities, etc), especially during the period the book took place. I give the author credit for that but not enough to continue reading the author’s other works. I personally should’ve DNF this book but I hoping it would give something more. Huge disappointment.

Book with an interesting premise, that my enjoyment went down the longer I read it. Nothing really happens in this book, and the supposed twist, really wasn't one. I was expecting something clever, along the lines of the TV show Life on Mars (with the British and American versions having a different reveal). I found it annoying, that our protagonist repeatedly described her surprise at waking up in the other world, and we get lots of repetitive descriptions. I listened to the book and ended up bumping it up to 1.75 because I wanted to get to the reveal - and I was like - what..wait...that's it?!

This premise of this book is what originally drew me in; who doesn't love a mix of "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Sliding Doors"? But the book jacket summary only touches upon the many layers of life's little "what ifs" this story examines.

I started off thinking I would see the plot line meandering miles in the distance; knowing exactly where the author would take me and why. Boy, was I absolutely wrong.

Was this the best story I have ever read that used this particular plot device? No. Was it the best story I have ever read to touch on the subjects it covers throughout the course of the novel? No. But it was a charming story and I did find myself liking most of the characters. Is it a story that I could find myself reading again? No. But I do feel that the themes and questions this book addresses will stay with me for a good long while.

They say that books find you when you are meant to read them, and this book definitely came along at the right time for me.

What a charming book! Our heroine dreams a life of what could have been, and then the dreams start blurring with reality, and she has some trouble discerning which life she wants. I was totally hooked from the first page. I actually appreciate both "timelines" of our heroine, and loved how as the story progressed, she could see that no life is as perfect as a dream might make us think. Very sweet book, playing out the "what ifs" that many of us have.
