I resisted picking this up because of Rowling's anti-trans controversy, but then I finished [b:Lethal White|42283287|Lethal White (Cormoran Strike, #4)|Robert Galbraith|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1559867637l/42283287._SX50_.jpg|48186050] and found myself caught up in a platonic-though-not-entirely-platonic thirst for Cormoran Strike that needed to be quenched.

So I read it, and it was great.

You know when a mystery has so many red herrings it ceases to be enjoyable? Well, that, but replace the red herrings with astrological symbols.

Well this was great. And not transphobic, if you were wondering, but I won't get into that.
Loved the slow pace, the character development, the story and resolution... Everything I needed to get through self isolation. So many great themes like prejudice, assumptions and loss... No coherent thoughts from me here but I would absolutely recommend this.

I have not read any of the other books from the series but it didn't matter, I never felt lost or that I was lacking context by jumping right into number 5 of the Cormoran Strike novels.
Having never read Harry Potter or any other J K Rowling's books, I didn't really appreciated nor experienced her exceptional writing style when it comes to fiction until now.
The book has maaaany pages and felt massive on my hands, and that made me happy everytime I picked it up to read some more because it meant that I had more time to spend with the story. I didn't want it to end but also I couldn't wait to know how it ended!
Thrilling and immersive. Rowling captures her characters' essence so well. The investigative journey is so fun to follow, as well as Robin's and Strike's stories, lifes, thoughts. Loved it!

Edit: I read this book now for a second time because I finally got to follow the Robin and Cormoran series in order and wow! I loved it on a first read and I love it even more now that I get the evolution of the characters, the small details, the tension. So so so good!

This was incredibly rewarding. A twisting plot, but not over the top. I liked that it took a full year in the book's world, made it much more plausible, which made it more enjoyable and satisfying. Hints were expertly dropped throughout, but still did not at all see the end coming. Only frustration I have is that I have to wait for yet another book for Robin and Strike to get together!
