Weer een goed en spannend boek van Robert Galbraith (AKA J.K. Rowling). Het verhaal in ingewikkeld, mede te danken aan het aantal personages die er een rol in spelen (98 !!). Dat is voor mijn gevoel een beetje te veel. Af en toe was ik een beetje de draad kwijt. En moest ik in mijn aantekeningen kijken wie wie was. Dat maakt dat mijn waardering ietsje lager uitvalt. Het moet voor een schrijver ook moeilijk zijn om die allemaal uit elkaar te houden.
Het verhaal draait om de vermissing van een huisarts (Margot Bamborough) een kleine veertig jaar geleden. De dochter van Margot, die bij de verdwijning pas 1 jaar oud was, heeft aan Cormoran en Robin gevraagd om te onderzoeken wat er met haar moeder gebeurd kan zijn. Ondertussen doen de privédetectives en hun freelancers ook nog onderzoek naar allerlei andere zaken en spelen de persoonlijke levens van Robin en Cormoran een rol (de ophanden zijnde echtscheiding van Robin en een overlijden in de familie van Cormoran).
Dat maakt het lezen een echte uitdaging waar ik wel van houd. Met veel plezier gelezen.

Excellent

Not a lot to say. Rowling's strength is writing characters and she does it well. Her mysteries are always a bit convoluted, but I guess that's par for the genre. Most of this book is soap opera, which plays into her strengths. The mystery is almost a side quest.

It would get 5 stars for plotting but the book is way too long. It needs a bold editor with a thick black marker. Here’s some helpful tips. We know what Strike looks like, no need to tell us again. We know he has a prosthetic leg which gives him gyp? No need to keep telling us. Most of us have read many crime novels, no need to tell us stuff that’s been said previously we can remember. It needed at least 200 pages shaving of it.
Good reads you need to remove all the reviews by people who haven’t read the book, their opinion is totally invalid.
This was an Audible book and I’m not sure Strikes Cornish accent works, otherwise you can go wrong with a Glenister.
