This book really did sneak up on me. It's just the right balance of heavy and light. Tragic, heartbreaking, hopeful, and almost whimsical.

Four stars because I really just enjoyed turning the pages of this story. I found the main characters charming and funny and I liked the author’s style of writing. That being said, I found the story itself a bit... predictable. It pretty much went from point A to point B. I will admit there was a twist I didn’t necessarily expect, but I did expect a twist around that time with that character so it still felt a bit inevitable. In any case, I’m still happy to have read it, it was nice to laugh out loud at a book again and root for the characters.

I felt like I was running the gauntlet of emotions while reading this. It can swing wildly between the highs of happiness and love, and the extreme lows of depression and grief. It was challenging, but very rewarding.

Recommended by Fiona at Sweetgrass...had some trouble getting into it but then absolutely LOVED it. What a voice, what a story. At first I thought it wasn't at all something I could relate to but as it turns out ... surprisingly things came up.
