Beautiful writing and interesting structure, interweaving Salome’s story with the stories in Hollywood as a movie about her is being produced.

Wow, this was so good. I was hesitant because of the Bible tale aspect of it, but as usual, if Silvia writes it, I'll love it. I heard that the audiobook had a full cast so I picked that up and it was so worth it, it definitely enhanced the story and cinematic aspect. I don't know if I completely followed all the politics of the Salome timeline, but the parallels with the Hollywood timeline helped a bit as you see the way they mirror each other and push both stories forward, I loved this back and forth, it really made for a compulsive read!

Very well done story. I enjoyed the full cast version audiobook. The ending was somewhat abrupt. I would have liked to have more insight into Vera’s life after the movie. Overall it was a good book and one I would recommend.
The story of the Seventh Veil of Salome is based on a biblical retelling. There are 3 main characters and 2 timelines we follow. We follow Salome back when John the Baptist was preaching the word of Jesus. Then, we move forward to 1950’s Hollywood, where we follow Vera, who comes to California from Mexico, and Nancy, who has been living in Hollywood for the last 4 years. Vera is basically plucked from obscurity and asked to play the role of Salome, whereas Nancy is a bit player in the Salome movie. Each person has their own personal issues to work through. There are some chapters with other people working on the Salome movie to give some background on the events around the movie. However, the focus is on Nancy and Vera. I was surprised to find a biblical retelling so interesting. There are a lot of big issues the characters contend with including racial and sexual discrimination; and all 3 characters struggle against men holding power over them. There were some pacing issues at time, but overall, I really enjoyed this book.
