The second half of this book is what kept me reading. I really struggled in the beginning to figure out why there were so many different characters and what place they all had in the story. There are many perspectives told throughout the story that can be a bit confusing.

However, once I got a lay of the land, I began to enjoy the story , especially told through the main character Vera. She has lots of character development, and it seems like she and Salome seem to almost morph into one person towards the end which I liked.

However the lack of pay off at the end regarding Benny’s trial, if the movie was a success, if Vera went back to Mexico is unfulfilling.

I enjoyed this book and its multiple pov’s.

This book, for me, is another fantastic example of why I love Silvia Moreno-Garcia's writing. It was a slower book, but I found myself able to really immerse myself in the time and characters

Silvia Moreno-Garcia takes a biblical tale and parallels it with Hollywood in the 1950's. I didn't know how I felt about this book for the first couple of chapters, but I think it kind of grew on me about halfway through. Moreno-Garcia has a very eloquent writing style, her prose is fluid and she effortlessly jumps through time and characters without it feeling disjointed.

The way the author jumps between Vera and Salome, with complimentary characters, including Nancy who you'll love to hate, and various side characters, is really enticing.

I also loved that the author provided a spotify playlist that correlates with how she wrote the book, that was a nice bonus.
