Beautifully written and really captures the 1970s. Excellent character development, particularly Cushla's mum who I thought was particularly well-drawn, and Davey, who I loved. My only minor criticism is that I wish I'd felt more intensity from Cushla and Michael's relationship, and more warmth in her and Gerry's friendship, although my suspicions about Gerry turned out to be correct.

Overall an excellent read - a real insight into the day to day impact of sectarian conflict during the Troubles and a favourite of mine so far this year

Not in the right mindset for this one, but the author is definitely doing a fine job of evoking the personal and political troubles of the time. Just too much meanness for me.

Usually, I struggle with books that lack quotation marks, finding it jarring or disruptive to the flow but this book made it work. I loved how real the characters felt with their strengths and flaws and desires. I also always appreciate a novel that comes full circle and leaves you feeling like you've gone on a journey with the characters.
