I feel like I’ve been dropped in this story in the middle and I don’t understand the romance whatsoever

I really enjoyed this book overall.
It is very well written and engaging, and watching Drew and Josh fall in love was really beautiful.
I REALLY enjoyed that this book was written from both Drew’s and Josh’s perspectives. I love dual POV in a will they or won’t they romance. The yearning!!
This isn’t a typical pop star falls for her boyfriend’s rich hot doctor brother story though. It is on the surface, but there is way more to it than that.
This book wasn’t as much of a romcom as I expected. It was, of course, but there were some pretty serious topics that were dealt with (Drew finding her dad after his suicide when she was a child, Drew naively visiting Josh in Somalia where the situation was scarier than she realized, Josh’s time in Somalia where he is literally shot, Drew’s management forcing her to take drugs and embezzling her money). It was pretty serious stuff set amongst a really beautiful love story.
When Josh flew to Paris to get Drew the brioche? All of the sneaking around? The banter? Amazing!
Josh was TO DIE FOR, and I really connected with both he and Drew. Both changed a lot over the course of the story, for the better.
I really appreciated how dimensional the characters were. Yeah, Drew says rude things sometimes and often doesn’t have a lot of forethought in her actions. But it makes sense given her family and the way that she is treated by her management. Yeah, Josh has a hard time committing, but that’s because he wants nothing more than for his mom to be happy and doesn’t want conflict with his brother.
Both main characters were so realistic.
I greatly appreciated that the sex scenes and banter were not cringe at all, which can be hard to find in this genre at times.
I also enjoyed that Tali and Hayes (and their baby!) were included in this story, from A Deal with the Devil. That is one of my favorite books ever, so it was nice to have them back.
There is also a little novella/epilogue that comes after this book is done with more on Josh and Drew’s story called “The Devil Goes to Maui”, which added a lot to their story, and really redeemed Josh’s brother/Drew’s ex, Six, as well.
Great read, great series so far. Loving Elizabeth O’Roark’s writing style.

Great story - interesting twists. Male narrator made me speed up the playback, though.

Slowest of slow burns

4.5

3.5/5 stars ⭐ I enjoyed this book a lot more than the third in the series. The build up was good and I enjoyed the vacation setting. It did stall a little once they left the islands. I think the MMC stayed with the brother way too long and that got on my nerves, but luckily it picked back up by the end.

*Spoilers below*
POV: Dual POV, first person, present tense
Romance Type: Slow burn
Series Info: The Devil Series #2. Can be read as standalone
Trope(s): Enemies to lovers, (ex) boyfriend's brother, forced proximity, one bed (tent)
Ending: HEA
Triggers: Parent with cancer, mentions of alcoholic dad, family drama, fat shaming
OW/OM: Borderline emotional cheating. Nothing physical happens until FMC breaks up with MMC's brother
Steam: Open door
# of times: 4-5 but some are less descriptive
