Super fun and lighthearted. Really liked.

Yeah this was lit. I LOVE JOSH SM

it's more of a 4 Star book but I notice the autor makes weird "jokes" about kids that made me really uncomfy, and a few sexist jokes. Not only in this book but in the first one as well.

She laughs. “You and Hayes both. He asked my doctor if we could just go ahead and schedule this as a C-section ‘to ensure everything remains the appropriate size’.

BITCH WHAT, oh there is more...

Ads for sexy toddlers,” I muse. “Is that what you use for porn in Somalia?” “Only when the internet’s slow,” he says, and I give another startled laugh.

Good news! The sequel to A Deal with the Devil was just as good, if not slightly better!! This one took me just slightly longer to read because I picked it up right as I was leaving work on Friday, and then well, it’s next to impossible to read over the weekend. So it took me like…three days to swallow this one down, but omg. I could have read it in 5 hours like I did the first one! O’Roark is absolutely phenomenal at creating bickering characters that are perfect for each other. I loved reading Drew and Josh butt heads — they loved picking at each other and then all the sudden, Josh was protective. I love that in a hero, so…yes. Sign me up for more of this.

ANYWAY, The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is Drew’s story — she featured semi-regularly in A Deal with the Devil, but honestly, you don’t need to read that one to understand what’s going on here. It’s very self-contained which is another great thing about these books. Regardless, The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is about what happens when Drew is invited along to her on-again-off-again boyfriend’s family’s vacation. I never really caught on to why she agreed to go — Six made her so angry and upset — but she did go, and boy was that the right decision. I don’t need to summarize this — it’s all in the synopsis above.

I felt so bad for Drew almost the entire novel. She was so unhappy with her life and just sort of…muddled through it. She didn’t know how to get out, how to make it better, or even that she could make it better until she really got to know Josh. He woke her up from her life. Watching him watch her, watching him take care of her in his own way… well, it was just…chef’s-kiss amazing. Then you turn around and see how Six treated her. Oof. No comparison. I loved that Josh wanted Drew to fix her life for her, not so they could be together.

SpoilerI wasn't a fan of the Somalia scenes just because it felt...rushed. How on earth did Drew have no idea how bad it was there? Felt a little forced and a lot White-savior-y. Unfortunate, and unnecessary.

I loved this book, and yes, I’m going right into the next one. Don’t wait up for me!

“Tell me something no one else knows.”

Loved this book!. It’s a great enemies to lovers romance. It also has a trope I really need more of - ex-boyfriend’s brother. Yes please! If you’ve read Elizabeth’s previous book, A Deal with the Devil, you may recognize our FMC in this book, Drew Wilson. She was Tali’s rockstar friend.

The story starts with Drew being invited to Hawaii to spend two weeks with her ex-boyfriend, Joel, and his family in an attempt to win her back. Once she arrives, Joel is held up for some reasons and he’s not able to join the family right away, so she is stuck with his parents and his older brother, Josh. And Josh makes it clear that he is not feeling this vibe.

But what starts off as a situation that neither Drew or Josh want to be in, it slowly starts to develop into much more. But when Joel arrives in Hawaii, it becomes a fight your feelings at all cost situation. Which is my FAVOURITE thing about forbidden romance.

I loved the banter between these two! This was a fun read!

Special thanks to Valentine PR and Elizabeth O’Roark for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If I thought I loved the book before this one I was not prepared for how amazing this one was gonna be. Drew goes on vacation with her ex boyfriend to see if they can be fixed. Finding out his whole family is gonna be there with his brother Josh who hates her.

I seriously loved their banter. I love how protective and caring Josh was even from the very beginning. I love seeing Drew start to stand up for herself and make her own decisions. Turn the negative voices in her head positive. Her and Josh fighting to be together even when the odds seem to be stacked against them.

This one had about the same level of spice but I just loved them together so much. Their relationship felt so natural and special.

A layered, slow-burn love story about an American doctor who works in a dangerous field hospital in Somalia and the famous pop star who was dating his musician brother.

Dual POVs help us both really root for them (in healing and in love) and get so frustrated with them because we care so much.

Another winner for me.
