Aw man, this was a 4/5-star read (which on my subjective scale means not incredibly groundbreaking but insightful enough and overall enjoyable) until the last chapter, where her only detailed call to action is for women to vote more and, you know, maybe join some social advocacy movements if you feel like it. She even says that a "bottom-up revolution" can ve acheived by way of more women voting for Democrats. Someone as well acquainted with socialism should know better. In the end, the book dropped into my 3/5 tier which is "Fine. Worth finishing but doesn't have sticking power due to its conclusions."

DID NOT FINISH

not in the mood

Ghodsee does a wonderful job of balancing despair towards our current capitalist system and hope towards a political and government structure that cares more about its citizens. And not only that, but she constantly balances the difficult conversation of what socialist practices benefit women and society while acknowledging the many pitfalls of what socialism looked like in practice in many Eastern European countries.
