This was a quick, informative read. I really enjoyed learning about the past and other parts of the world and how capitalism and socialism, whether in the East or West, is all connected and play important roles in parts of our lives that we often probably don’t even realize.

Half the book is just the author whining about authoritarianism and state socialism, two undebately good things that are not only desirable but needed. The half where she talks about how good the lives of women were under authoritarian state socialism is pretty good though.

Thought-provoking and informative. I feel I have a better understanding of different economic systems now.
I do however feel some of the content is a little cherry picked, for example the anecdotes, to support the author's views. This makes the book feel more like the author is trying to convince the reader of their belief, and I'd rather read cold, hard, statistically significant facts.

3.5 | This is very much a primer book. Young people would benefit a lot more from reading this than I did.
