4 stars. This book does such a good job showing how Zoey gets to a place where she feels safe in a relationship that started out in such a traumatic way. Normally my biggest issue with noncon and dubcon storylines is when authors don’t focus on how the heroine gets to a place where she feels safe in the relationship and that definitely not an issue here. Are there other small things that bug me about this book, sure, but overall it gave me most of the things I want form this type of book.

Update: reread and bumping to 5 stars. I’ve read a few more books like this now and I keep comparing them all back to this on. Definitely a standout so giving it its due.

All I can say is... wow, what did I just read?!

I'm not crying, you are!

No, but seriously, this was excellent. Love a good standalone that takes you on a journey that ends right where you want it. But there were so many detours along the way that it kept me on my toes.

Zoey is a strong heroine with a sharp mind and she can take care of herself.

Carter is...messed up, to say the least, but he's a golden boy.

He's met his match in Zoey and they form a bond that's unbelievable, despite how they meet.

Please take the warnings seriously, trigger warnings are necessary with this book, but it is so good for those who like dark romances. So, so good.

I have no regrets reading this. My only regret is not reading it sooner.

Either you’re gonna love this book or completely hate it. I admit it was tough getting through those first few chapters but once I did I fell in love with the characters and their fascination with each other. What kept me going in the beginning was the curiosity of how this girl could ever love a man who wronged her so badly, but it was so worth it seeing their progress together.

Um... hmm. How do I review this.

Look. I read the warnings. I knew what to expect. And yet... I didn't. I thought this book would start off with some dubious darkness, and then there would be a twist or a reveal or at least some sort of redeemableness to the main love interest to make me like him...

There wasn't.

Carter was the WORST love interest I've ever read about. He was awful. He treated Zoey like absolute shit throughout the book, even late on when they were meant to be in love. I've read bully romances before, but never one that disgusted me like this.
Plus Zoey is such an annoying main character. She's so stupid, let's Carter do these shit, and sometimes stands up to the behaviour, but then turns round the next day and let's him do it all over again. Grow a backbone, hunny! Have some self respect.

And the anti abortion preaching in this had me cringing. The morning after pill being called an early abortion pill and the main character preferring to risk pregnancy than take it?? Really? No thank you.

Please please be aware of the warnings before picking this up.

I liked this book well enough but something was off for me with this one. I can’t exactly put my finger on why. I like Sam Mariano a lot but this doesn’t feel like a book I’ll come back too. Good not great.

PSA: THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR EVERYONE!! IT IS DARK IT IS FUCKED UP AND MORALLY GROSS! If content featuring SA, non-con, dub-con, etc. upsets you or could potentially trigger you pls skip this one, it is not worth your mental health, love urself and be happy

now for the rest of you,,,,, wowieee. idk what I was expecting but it was definitely not THIs level of fuckedupness (?). Mr. Carter is not morally grey, he is morally BLACK he is everything your feminist and self preservation instincts tell you to run away from. and if this was real life, I would be on the phone to the authorities quicker than he can blink, but since this is fiction and fantasy and these acts are NOT real,,,, boy oh boy was I transfixed. I think it's the fact that everything is so wrong, like a car crash, that I literally could not stop reading it.

I did get a little tense every time the topic of abortion came up because I could never really tell what the stance was and that put me.... a little on edge. there's also some other things that are left a little on the loose, but ultimately I was here for the moral horror, and it certainly did its job :)

Untouchable by Sam Mariano was a very dark, crazy read for me! This book is not for everyone, so; please check the trigger warnings.

A rough scene happens right at the beginning of this book, so please make sure that you again check the trigger warnings.

"If you're looking for Prince Charming and I'm your best shot, you are in a truly dire situation."

This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster, especially with Zoey.

"I don't need people to like me; I just need them to respect me as much as common decency warrants and leave me alone the rest of the time."

Carter is a possessive crazy asshole. He is wealthy and privileged and thinks he is unstoppable. When it comes to Zoey, Carter is controlling and demanding. He likes Zoey, but he shows her in the most fucked up ways. He is relentless when it comes to getting her to go out with him. Zoey is such a strong, brave female character, which is why Carter is so fascinated by her.

Zoey does not want to jump into a relationship with Carter since he has broken her trust. She will not make this easy on him; he will have to earn her trust again.

"I've got thick skin, and I'm beginning to like when you nibble on me."

Carter and Zoey, throughout their relationship, definitely go through a lot of emotions. It was one hell of a ride for them, but I am glad they got their HEA.

"Do you know what you've done, princess? You just gave me the keys to the kingdom. There's no stopping me now."

"Whatever life with Carter will be like, it will never be boring."

This book sucks you in chapter after chapter. You will either love it or hate it, but I say go into this book with an open mind and give it a chance. Untouchable is the first book I have read from this author, and it will not be my last!
dark emotional sad tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

You don't want to like Carter, but there's really no helping it!

The only thing I knew about this book was that the hero wasn't really a hero, and there might be some questionable scenes in the first few chapters. So I didn't realize that Carter Mahoney would work his way into my heart with all his dastardly decisions. Or that Zoey would be so good at standing up for herself, and so hot when she just have in to the force of nature that is Carter. For all his bullying, there's more to Carter, and I'm glad he found Zoey to share all that with!!!
