I was so excited when I got to read about Almanzo and Laura being able to date and get engaged. I have never forgotten my first time reading this book as it was the first time I wanted to marry and hold out for the man of my dreams like Laura did. I'm lucky in the fact that I got my wish.

Dit is een van mijn favoriete delen van de kleine huis serie. Laura's ervaringen met het lesgeven en hoe de relatie met Almanzo ontwikkeld. Maar ook de beschrijvingen van het huishouden, koken en kleding maken, vind ik mooi.
Ik moet ook iedere keer als ik het boek pak lachen om de leeftijdsadviezen die staan bij het rijtje titels van de serie. Mijn exemplaar is namelijk van mijn moeder en in die tijd was dit dus bedoeld voor vanaf 16 jaar. (Nu zegt de site van de bieb hier vanaf 11 jaar)

This was such a joy to read!
The humor and love emanated off the pages. I was so taken by Almanzo's courtship and Laura's journey becoming independent. Years whizzed by in this book though it felt like a blink of an eye. This book is a timeless classic as there are things that we still deal with to this day! (Including the future in-laws trying to swoop in and take charge over a wedding.) Oh goodness, I loved every part of this book. The real question that we're all wondering: Did Laura fall in love with Almanzo because of his horses, or were the horses simply a reason for Laura's gaze to fall on Almanzo? Hmm? The world may never know. Haha
