For some reason, the author/editor(s) of "The Other Valley" decided that literally none of the dialogue needed to have quotation marks or some other form of indicator that a conversation is taking place. It's one thing when it's a book like "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy which is already very minimalistic, but this book is far from that. Don't waste my time with that just because you want to try to be "contemporary literature."

I thought this was really interesting and appreciated the world-building and questions the book raises about time and fate. The overall vibes of the book definitely reminded me a bit of Never Let Me Go and I Who Have Never Known Men.
