5 stars for an interesting, well written story. I felt so many emotions reading this. Being the first book I've read by Octavia, I didn't know what to expect, but I didn't expect it to be so amazing. Highly recommend. Really looking forward to getting into some of Butler's other stories.
I loved this book - the story and characters are so incredibly unique and interesting. I think this is being made into a tv series (with Viola Davis's production company), and I am VERY excited to see it!
This is the second OB book I have read and her themes are extremely dark. I only got to chapter two and we already have talk of rape, no consensual body snatching, and many other red flags. I got very uncomfortable

This book is deep and thought provoking. Watching the time pass and seeing the breeding and such with a back drop of American slavery was kind of hard to stomach. I spent so much of the book hating Doro but unwilling to completely write him off even as I was wondering why in the hell Ayanwu wasn’t trying to figure out how to kill him. I need to see where this goes but I will be taking a bit of a break between the books.
