Nobody should be surprised that I absolutely adore a Parker St. John book, as I have reread the Down Home series more than almost any other series I can remember. This keeps some of the same aspects (a small town with a cast of characters I'm sure we'll be seeing again and again) and throws in a bit more grit (like the Cabrini Law series, which I haven't read but have on my TBR). I am always a sucker for romances where one character returns home after a long time away and needs to fit back into a place where they aren't sure they belong anymore, and that's what we see with Gage coming home. Wyatt and Gage have amazing chemistry, and I just love the way that Parker writes her characters and their relationships. They aren't people who always make the perfect decision at the perfect time. Instead, they're real people. I cannot WAIT to read the rest of the books in this series!

This is the first book I have wanted to keep reading in months.
It's very insta love, declarations come in fast and easily but it's well written and that's hard to find these days.

So many of my fave tropes, fascinating characters and world building, plus a lot of angst and sizzling romance makes for a book I could not stop reading!

Parker St. John set a new standard in hurt comfort books about powerful men. Wyatt and Gage are a prime reminder why timing can be everything.

Gage is a member of the Beaufort family, a group of misfits bright together by varying circumstances under guidance of a wealthy benefactor. Now that caretaker turned father figure has died and Gage is back after being sent away from the chaos of Devil's Garden. Many years ago he put his heart on the line to Wyatt but rejection seared doubt and fear into his heart. Wyatt was once placed on a pedestal but the younger Gage but took a fall after kiss puts feelings to the forefront.

Wyatt found a broken and battered 10 year old boy and took him to the one place in Devil's Garden that he knew would change his life. But there's a fighter within this boy and he feels that is his only way to redemption. After the boy grows up and he's seen as a man, Wyatt is met with feelings he feared not only from the boy but from himself. When Gage leaves he thinks he can move on but what the boy doesn't know is he's stayed in Wyatt's heart and he wanted him then and now. When Gage gets himself into a bind his savior comes to his rescue but he is afraid to be fully open and available. But Wyatt knows this is a defense and works to show him how much he means to him as well as what their life can be together.

Throughout the book we meet the other Beaufort men and how they factor into this world and with each other. There is a deep and dark cavern of filth that bleeds into Devil's Garden and all the men within this family are connected to the many issues that plague this town. With Wyatt being a cop he is at a crossroads with the man he loves and his family of misfits and the law he believes in and aims to uphold. When the corruption hits close to home and a lost brother is found, it will take everyone working together to succeed.

This is my first Parker St. John's story and I was blown away. I am so excited that Mason's story is set and I am impatiently waiting for its release. I am excited to learn more about the ins and outs of Devil's Garden and how the Beaufort men can overcome the chaos.
