I wanted a easy read while I was busy with other things, and I got a southern belle and a southern gentelman FBI agent. I was expecting a cosy mystery type read but this was so much more. I couldn't put it down read it basically all in one sitting and now needing to read the rest of this series. Mac the DC FBI agent is from small town plantation family back home to see his mum whom resides in a luxury Care facility, where he rans into southern belle Sam whom is a widower single mum living in her grandmothers home and now working in the same place that Mac is investigating. What could go wrong? Loved this book need to read the next installment of this series probably straight away.

I really enjoyed this book, and I do have a bit of a crush on Mac, I mean come on a sexy, rich, FBI agent with southern charm and manners? Who wouldn't? Samantha, on the other hand, seems to be a decent enough person but I think it's annoying that she barely takes care of her own kid. She has a live-in "nanny"/best friend who spends more time with Dax than Sam does. But, I just found that to be more annoying than a deal-breaker.
I'm about to download the second book after I post this review. I can't wait to find out what happens with
SpoilerHector and Sam's pregnancy
, and It's just a bonus that the author is from Kentucky! Also P.S. if you are interested in reading this book, the ebook version is free on Amazon!

The blurb described this book as a romantic mystery, between an FBI agent, Mac Callahan, and Sam Peterson, a newly hired nursing home administrator. Actually, it was more of a "bodice ripper." The first two thirds of the book focus on the romance and the mystery the last third. I bought it for free during an Amazon flash sale. I am counting it for Alabama in my US state challenge. I give it 2.5 * ,rounded down to 2, out of 5. This book is padded and repetitious and could be reduced by a third.

I have read this book twice and it was as good the second time as the first. It is a romance with a crime novel twist but it has enough of the danger and adventure to keep the pace exciting. The characters are complex and the writing is good. The pace is quick so it is good for a by-your-bedside book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the whole series.

I liked the glimpse of the south, as I love the south.
But in thinking "why do I like romcoms and not romance novels?" this book is why. romcoms show non-perfect people, When Harry met Sally? The guy wasn't super fit, super rich, super successful, and super well endowed, for gosh sakes.
I don't even like perfect people.

Oh. My. This was a good story. No... it was delicious. The author made the story just roll around you like a summer sunset by the pool. Hot, sticky, sweet..... and man oh man.... the southern. Loved it!

I really liked it, the plot and the characters but I probably won't continue the series and it's a personal reason. There are two elderly women in the book, one is 98 and the other is suffering from Alzheimers. I have no idea what happens to them in the next 4 books, but I'm not going to take a chance. I'm sorry. I don't like books where kids, dogs or Grandmas die.
