I am a fan of Eve. She is both smart and tough. The rest of the gang is great too. Yet this time I was not really feeling the vibe with this book. I was only semi interested in the events taking place in the story. There seemed to be a lot of mopping around. In addition, I found the high intensity action lacking until the last third of the book and no strong leader. There was a lot of times throughout this book that I found myself just going through the motions of reading but nothing was really sinking into my head. Which I really did not care if it did or not. There was not much of importance that I was missing. Plus, if you have read these books then you know how the story would end. So no surprise there. In fact, I was so disinterested that I did not even get emotional when one of the characters passed away. However I still enjoy this author and her books.

This book goes back to three stars, mostly because Kendra did not hang around. But no fear, yet ANOTHER character was introduced who did little to forward the plot. Apparently both Kendra and Catherine have their own series of books, so their role was to provide advertising for these other series. Because I really fail to see what Catherine's role was. She was not well developed.

Speaking of not well developed- Stang was in all three of these books, and we finally get some background on him, but he is just... around, serving little purpose when he could have been utilized better. Perhaps instead of these other characters who were just added for... I'm gonna again have to go with deus ex machina.

And this book really went off the rails with the plot.
Spoiler The addition of the nukes seemed unnecessary... unless you needed to force a side story to get a trilogy, I suppose. And all of a sudden Kevin has more associates in the background who were never mentioned or utilized before, even when Doane was having massive struggles completing all of his plans? UGH.

Every issue in this book was solved not through the hard work and ingenuity of the characters, but through magical associations with ghosts and animals. Sure, the people did follow up work, but they would have figured NOTHING out if the magical components didn't exist. And that was just super irritating.

But again... very little Kendra, so rounded to three stars.

In typical [a:Iris Johansen|32498|Iris Johansen|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1266463281p2/32498.jpg] fashion, this book left me speachless, screaming at the ending, heartbroken, filled with happiness, and just about every other dichotomy I can think of. So many emotions are pulled out and put into you at the same time that by the time you reach the end, you're exhausted.

I am really loving the trilogy-series style that Johansen started with [b:Quinn|9789566|Quinn (Eve, Quinn and Bonnie #2)|Iris Johansen|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1317067431s/9789566.jpg|14679600], and [b:Bonnie|9789572|Bonnie (Eve, Quinn and Bonnie #3)|Iris Johansen|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1314903168s/9789572.jpg|14679606]. She continues in this fashion with [b:Taking Eve|15766976|Taking Eve (Eve Duncan # 16)|Iris Johansen|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1344319310s/15766976.jpg|21471904], [b:Hunting Eve|16045080|Hunting Eve (Eve Duncan, #17)|Iris Johansen|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1352781000s/16045080.jpg|21823296], and now with [b:Silencing Eve|17286783|Silencing Eve (Eve Duncan, #18)|Iris Johansen|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1361639811s/17286783.jpg|23906846]. And just as [b:Bonnie|9789572|Bonnie (Eve, Quinn and Bonnie #3)|Iris Johansen|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1314903168s/9789572.jpg|14679606] provided the perfect ending to that trilogy, [b:Silencing Eve|17286783|Silencing Eve (Eve Duncan, #18)|Iris Johansen|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1361639811s/17286783.jpg|23906846] does the same here. Not only wrapping up the current story line that this trilogy introduced but also providing just the right teasers that the reader is left with happy anticipation as to which direction Johansen will take next. One thing I really loved about this series is that there was only one new character, Margaret. Instead of introducing a number of new characters for us, the readers, to try to love and learn about, Johansen has instead brought all the characters we already love together in this fight for Eve's life. And as we follow this journey we learn more about those characters.

Ok so now my emotional reactions...

Spoiler HOLY CRAP!!! I can't believe that she has killed off Trevor! And just when Jane FINALLY opened up to someone. I'm so glad she had Jane choose Trevor. And that Jane has finally met Bonnie. But still, at the cost of losing Trevor? I'm not sure how Johansen is going to move forward with this but I'm really going to be watching how she does. I was really happy when Jane finally made the jump to love and commit to Trevor.

I'm also unsure how I feel about Zander. The sudden appearance of Eve's father feels a little forced. I'm not sure we really needed to have Zander brought in as Eve's father. Again, I'm trusting Johansen so I will look to future books before making my ultimate decision.

First Thought when Finished: Silencing Eve wasn't my favorite in the trilogy but it tied up things in a very good way!

Overall Thoughts: Not really a review since I can't do it without giving stuff away and I refuse!

I admit that my problem with Silencing Eve was too much Jane. She is my least favorite character in the series. I don't know why I can't connect with her but we just aren't a reader/character match. I did enjoy everyone else including Margaret, Caleb, and Trevor who were all part of Jane's story. I am a big fan of Kendra, so I am hoping in the future that we see Margaret and Kendra working together. They are exact opposites but that makes the dynamic interesting. Joe, Katherine, and the rest of Eve's crew (I am being purposely vague here) were great too. I am not sure if we will get more of them in the future but I hope so. Characters are the reason that I really love this series.

Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By Elisabeth Rodgers / Length: 12 hrs and 34 mins

Elisabeth is these characters to me! As the series has gone on, I have come to hear her narration in my head even if I pick up the print copy. She does an excellent job and her nuances are perfect for this role!

Final Thoughts: Overall this is probably my favorite trilogy to date in the Eve Duncan series. Very strong overall arc that had a satisfying ending.

WTH,I'm not so sure I like that ending. Why? It amazes me that an author can just kill off who ever, and get away with it. I'm offended, and without spoilers I'm absolutely crushed. Still emotionally charged, and well written book. I just wish it had a different ending. Overall was five stars.

I took all other Eve Duncan books off of my To-Read list. I'm officially finished.

This book was better than the previous one, since it did a better job wrapping up the story and developing each character more. Still think there were too many characters and plot points, but not so many extras that the book was hard to read. Read in 3 hours, 7 minutes

This was a good book. All the hype about who was going to be killed was a little out there. It certainly is a surprise
