Listened to this as an easy breezy thing to have on while I did chores etc. I think it met that goal, but I def am just too old for this. The magic stuff (nightmares) was definitely unique to me and I really couldn't predict where this was going. I also liked that this had real stakes for something that seemed fluffy — main characters do die. But while I admired that at first by the end it felt like it lost its teeth and the deaths weren't as impactful. I thought the romance was mostly silly and this reallllly cemented my hatred of stupid pet names (cough *Violence* cough).

If you are sensitive about reading the f-bomb, be warned! Full of teen angst and drama. Too many serious conversations in impossibly noisy places. Good premise (teen monster juvie)

I honestly enjoyed reading this more than Crave. It might be because I like a little horror read and this has tons of mystery and horror. I kept flipping the pages, reading as fast as I could just to figure out what was going on! I absolutely love Jude and Clementine doesn't waste time which I love. Instead of just screaming at a fictional character to just do it and don't question your gut! Remy and Izzy add a nice little touch to the old characters. I can't WAIT for their book. The ending definitely has me wondering what has been going on in all the other courts than the ones we learn with Grace and if they'll all come together. So excited to see where this goes! But Jude definitely has the best abilities around! The sweetest little nightmare! Also can the little nightmares please be friendly! They sound so cute I want one!!
This book felt all over the place. There was no chemistry between the MMC and FMC, until right at the end but this is nothing like the Crave series where I felt it from the word go. Too much happened in too short of a time for this to be a coherent story. Clementine never had a chance to process literally anything, and the body just cannot take that much damage at once without there being some sort of repercussion. I know this is fantasy, but that challenged by suspension of belief. Too many side characters got offed, it just felt wasteful when they ran out of usefulness to the story. And keeping the bad guys around, when you've introduced a bigger/badder guy felt just dumb. I did enjoy it, and I'll probably read the next one, I just won't be in a rush to buy it on release day.

This was such a fun read and had the same elements I ate up with crave. I kept coming back to it and overall enjoyed it as a quick read.
I think if you’re going to read this don’t listen to the audiobook like I did, read the physical copy. It was definitely jam packed with action, but there was so much happening all of the time I would have liked to have a physical copy to reference back to for some of my “wtf” moments. Unfortunately, I couldn’t easily do that with the audiobook so it felt a little chaotic and left me pretty confused.

When I saw this book advertised, I knew I had to get it! I hadn't read the Crave series so had zero knowledge if there was any links between the two series. Might have missed some easter eggs, not sure, but it didn't stop me from enjoying it!
We meet Clementine Calder whose family runs Calder Academy. However, it's not your usual high school, this is a high school for magical delinquents. There is a magic blocker on the island, so all the paranormal teens do not have access to their magic (which is a bone of contention that annoys Clementine). She was born on the island where the school is and has never left. All she wants to do is leave the island and her controlling mother behind.
A massive storm hits and Clementine and her friends need to try and survive not only the elements, but also the other students and monsters. Whilst trying to navigate high school, feed the monsters in the dungeons, she also has to interact and deal with her ex-childhood best friend Jude whom she hasn't spoken to in 3 years but still has feelings for.
Perfect YA read for those that love paranormal mystery and romance. looking forward to book 2!

It was pretty good, but not quite as gripping as Crave. Still gonna read the rest of the series when it comes out though.
