Who thought this book was a good idea, because I want my time back from them that I wasted trying to get into this book
I was entertained and confused. It wasn't a great book, nor did it seem completely thought out, but I was entertained. Though I wish I knew that it was 92 chapters plus a prologue and an epilogue.
Buckle up for Sweet Nightmare—the school where breaking the rules isn’t just encouraged, it’s a survival skill!
Welcome to Calder Academy, the scariest school on earth, where vamps, witches, werewolves, and dark fae roam the halls. Think of it as Hogwarts on steroids, but the bad kind of magic.
Clementine Calder has grown up here, dodging all kinds of supernatural drama while her mom runs the show.
But when a freak hurricane traps them on their isolated island, things get seriously unhinged. Paranormals gone rogue, power outages, and creepy shadows lurking around every corner? Yup, it’s about to go down.
Enter Jude Abernathy-Lee, the dark, brooding boy she used to be best friends with until he ghosted her three years ago. Now they’re stuck together for a Brit Lit assignment and fighting to survive.
The tension? Off the charts.
The chemistry? Explosive.
Suddenly, getting close to him doesn’t seem like such a bad idea—dangerous, sure, but also totally electric.
With epic twists, magic mayhem, and a storm that’s about to unleash more than just bad weather, Sweet Nightmare will have you devouring pages faster than you can say “paranormal high school drama.”
And let’s not forget the romance—it’s got that slow burn that’ll leave you gasping for air.
Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one.
Grab a copy, clear your schedule, and prepare to be totally hooked. This book’s got it all—danger, desire, and the kind of plot twists that will keep you reading long into the night. You’ll need the sequel, like, yesterday!

I am not a fantasy fan, but I can see where YA fantasy enthusiasts would enjoy this. It has a ton of action, a central cast of surface-level characters in a monster academy setting during a hurricane and outbreak of a monster catastrophe on top of the natural disaster, a tortured love story, shape-shifting. For me, I wanted more complex characters and fewer stock characters. There was a silly amount of cursing at the beginning of the book to set the "this is a delinquent academy" vibe which felt over-the-top. I also felt like there were threads in the story that weren't explained which will probably be fleshed out in a subsequent book that I will not read.
"Sweet Nightmare," the latest addition to Tracy Wolff's literary universe, presents a familiar challenge to fans of the Crave series with its slow start. Much like its predecessors, the book demands patience as it unfolds over 200 pages before reaching the core of its gripping narrative. Readers who persevere are rewarded with a crescendo of suspense and revelation, particularly from chapter 70 onwards, where major plot points and character developments are masterfully revealed.
Despite some chapters that may seem superfluous, the novel ultimately delivers a satisfying payoff. The book garners a respectable 3.5-star rating, with hopes pinned on the next installment to carry forward the momentum in the author's signature style. The series continues to captivate with its blend of paranormal intrigue and the complexities of its characters' inner worlds. Fans and new readers alike can look forward to the evolving storylines and the rich, dark world that Wolff has crafted.

If you loved Tracy’s Crave series, you’ll love Sweet Nightmare. The Crave series was one of the first that got me into fantasy books and this book brought me right back to that first feeling.
This is a story about a badass group of friends, against all odds and enemies far bigger than them, on the longest Hunger Games type journey for justice and revenge that tries to kill them every step of the way. Tracy’s fantasy world building is one of the best ever - Calder Academy is a twisted world of dark magic, betrayal, vampires, nightmares, monsters, and fae mafia.
The inner Crave fan was SO excited to have Remy & Izzy back. I can’t wait to find out what brought them to Calder Academy, will we get a glimpse of Hudson & Jaxon, and how far will we have to go to take down the villains.
If you’re looking for spice, you won’t find it here BUT I highly recommend. This book is fun, heart wrenching, exciting, and truly an adventure.
Tropes:
Fantasy
Vampires, sirens, wolves
Monsters
Mystery
Found family
University setting
Mating bonds
