Not surprisingly, the direct sequel-spinoff series of the Crave series feels very much like Crave. What I was surprised by was how much it reminded me of the Darkest Powers series and The Raven Cycle. The parallels to The Happening was also a welcome addition. 
I laughed a lot while reading this and I really look forward to the second.

I liked the characters and the storyline so far. Wasn’t anything mind blowing but was good. Will be continuing with the second book when it’s released

This felt kind of like a guilty pleasure read I think? Like, things felt very messy and chaotic (and not in a good way), but I was intrigued enough to want to know what happens? But there are other YA Fantasy books I’d recommend to friends and family first before this.

This book was longer than it needed to be. I feel there are lots of characters, types of characters (vamps, manticore etc), powers introduced with very little explanation as to what they are/how they work. I feel there were scenes happening that were unclear or backstory was unclear. 
Core friend group interactions were fun, but besides that wouldn't recommend.

Also, mating bond was just randomly thrown in like 75% of the way through for two main characters...and they are like teens. No mention of mating bonds up to this point and not really elaborated beyond that scene. I love a good mating bond but I have questions.
