I knew that C. L. Clark is good. She's also the only person who could write an anti-hero so beautifully.

It was all I could ask from a narrative down to how dedicated Rictus was to Ambessa throughout it all; two of them together against the odds. It was fascinating to see how Ambessa kept ignoring reality to further her ambition throughout it all.

The only issue I have is unrelated to the book itself. It would have been good to see this narrative as part of the Arcane universe because it contains some information crucial to understanding the second season. I hope C. L. Clark gets to write more for them though.

only thing that got me through this was ellen thomas' voice for the audiobook. she did an amazing job with what she was given - this book could've been cut in half & still remained the same. the last few chapters were good but honestly most of the book was a pain to sit through.

It was definitely fun exploring this world a bit more! Ambessa is a tough character to root for, but she is entertaining! And the audiobook was excellent. Some of the pacing threw me off and I really would’ve enjoyed following Mel more. I enjoyed it tho. Id likely check out more in this world

This book was a lot better than I was expecting it to be.

Ambessa was an interesting enough character, but where it really shined were the characters around her.
