Started this book to see if i wanted the deluxe SE. I might pick it up again but it didn't grab me enough to pull me away from the other books in in the middle of right now.

I was surprised by this book. I wasn't expecting the world building and magic and mystery. But I enjoyed it. The hades part was unnecessary but I though the dream element of sleeping beauty was interesting. The way he woke up was a bit vague though.

I should probably preface this with saying that this is not my cup of tea. I got roped in because the beginning felt a lot like watching a car crash. You had no idea what was going on, but you couldn't look away. And then nothing but drag for the rest of the 600+ pages.
The magic had no rules, it seems like the author only used it when it was convenient. You spent more time in the dream world that did little to further the story or world build. The book was 90% character speculation. There was no character development. Both MC's were focused on the wrong thing, mostly jealous for no reason.
For such possessive and jealous MCs, the spice was nonexistent. The romance was never developed, so all the romance that was there felt cringey and unearned. The MMC was an asshole for most of it, he mostly yelled at her and was overly aggressive most of the time. She was distrustful and kept information until it was critical.
There were too many characters to keep track of, and all of them felt superficial because most of the time she was in the dream world speculating with the MMC.
I came out of this not knowing who or what these Atlanteans are, why they came to Boston. What their purpose is. Why they have magic. How the runes work, why the runes work. All of it was relegated to "Gaea" who's their deity. So she omnipresently divies out these rune magic and the MFC automatically trusts and knows that it's Gaea given and blessed? Why? What's the history? Who is Gaea? Is this the Roman or Greek pantheon? Is it inspired by it? Why were the diamonds even there? Why do they wear them if it's the only thing that neutralizes them?
She could've just made it a real world romance instead of having magic and dreams that ultimately did not develop or further the story along. It made it DRAG. It made the characters so passive because magic is the answer. All the action happened off page, while we're stuck in this pointless dream where the MMC is being in asshole becaus he's jealous that his cousin accidently blinked at the MFC. The Sleeping beauty thing felt so shoehorned. Because now she's stuck having to dream with this guy while 100% of the action is done for her and to her.

This is not a bad book. I am, however, not a suspense romance person and didn't realize that's what this would be. I kept hoping they'd solve the problem and get back to the romance, but nope. The MCs and drawn out plot and family drama frustrated me. If you like a little (a lot of) mystery with your romance, I can reccomend this. It was not for me, though.
