I've been reading this slowly for a while. It seems to be a good explanation of many buddhist concepts without being dogmatic. Each chapter ends with a "you try" section which I find to be a helpful explanation of how to use a concept just learned.

If you're looking to read your first book of John Kabat-Zinn or want to learn about the 'how' of meditation, I would recommend 'Mindfulness for Beginners', which feels more clear, structured and getting-to-the-point.

If you're looking for a book to guide you through mindfulness meditation, this ain't it. This book is mostly rambles about the theory of mindfulness rather than an informational document on that subject. It reads like a philosophy book. The author keeps repeating the same thing and going over the same concepts over and over chapter after chapter.
This book is overly long and repetitive. It could have been a 100 pages shorter is it wasn't for the endless run-on sentences. It's as if the author was paid by the word and therefore needed to make the simplest ideas very complicated and punctuated with uncommon flowery words.
I did find a few nuggets of wisdom in this book but this wasn't worth the read.
I recommend this book only to readers who want to read theory or who enjoy philosophy book. This book won't give you anything concrete to help in your meditation journey.

a grounded and patient examination of mindfulness and meditation. gives clear advice/instruction without annoyingly falling into the common self-help trap of needing to sell as a workbook.
