Monstrilio is a story about grief, what makes a monster and a man, and the love of family. To tag this story as horror really doesn't cut it, in my opinion. I think it's more in line with weirdfic. It's heartbreaking and emotional in its exploration of the different ways people grieve. Each character felt real, flawed, and emotional. They're not totally likable, and sometimes their actions are hard to swallow but are understandable. The writing was descriptive, though it remained the same style even when the perspectives changed. There was also a weird time jump in the middle that came out of nowhere. I teared up in a few scenes, especially parts with Joseph. Overall, a good, emotional read that would stick with me for some time.
