I got into the book in the hopes of understanding some coping mechanisms especially as a person with friends and family whom struggle with such. And while I was sometimes off-put by what felt like paragraphs throttled with curse words, not out of necessity or it fitting into the sentence, but more so to add as many as possible to make it appear relaxed... it somewhat pulled me away from the purpose of the novel. That aside, it lightened up and became more purposeful as it went on. Regardless, I was still left with some notes I was able to take from the book to use in moving forward.
I had used the audiobook version of this book which was read by the author herself. While it was nice to be able to hear the voice of the author, I found it jarring being faced with audio that was breathy and echoey, with some mistakes and throat clearing, detectable background conversation, and mistakes with needing repeating. So while not a professionally done audio book, I was still thankful to be able to have the option of listening to this novel and appreciate the time taken in creating it. Truthfully, once you get over that fact, and review the audio book like a podcast, it becomes less jarring.
In all, if you're looking for a relaxed introduction into the world of mental health and the ways of navigating it, I would definitely recommend the book. Just be aware that you may not want to have your nan or older family member(s) listen to it if they aren't all that appreciative of cursing. It certainly wouldn't be the book for them, haha! But if that is more than appropriate for yourself or others in reviewing, I would definitely recommend this book for a general understanding and advice of these topics.
