The ending we all deserved.

So here we are: THE END.

THE END OF THIS SERIES.

Well, that was that.

Looking back on the series, I feel that there was not much depth. As I wrote in my earlier review (of book two), the book is more of a popcorn flick than an actual read. I walk away from this trilogy feeling like... well, that was a waste and 'fanfiction, am I right?'

This is pretty much what this series was. Fanficton of a trilogy with a purpose and a story to tell. Since the story got wrapped in three, I mean, where could one go? Oh, yes, Camila and Lisabeth. The showdown. The match. The apex of Lisabeth's past and future.

I feel Camilla is an interesting character. Yet, there was not a lot of depth to her. She spends the entire three books shouting, controlling, and whining. She uses her beauty to hook, line and sinker people. That's it though, an it was a shame since she is supposed to be taking over the criminal enterprise from their father. So, when this book seemed to focus on her, I was rather underwhelmed by her scenes and thought that there was no way they were going to wrap this up.

The book ends in such an odd way that you can't tell if this is really the end (as the author stated). Because after the climatic finale, and the small wrap up chapter between the characters you just sit there going 'well, that was a waste'.

I'm a little shocked that the author got paid to write fanfiction of a character and a book series that had such a strong meaning or background to it. This book series, this book in general, feels like a trilogy about two characters who bear striking similarities to two characters we saw in another trilogy... but solve crimes and one is unethical on how she obtains the information for the other to write his articles.

...

Yet I had fun reading them, but I wholeheartedly state that unless you're craving to read these, find them cheap or rent them. They're enjoyable but not worth keeping next to the original three.

Once again we join Mikhail and Lisbeth on an adventure as Lisbeth continues to take down the various members of her family who abused her and abused others.

This book just didn't have the hook that drew me in, like the other books in the series. David Lagercrantz does a nice job of writing it, but he's no Stieg Larsson and it shows prominently in this book. The scenes which should be full of suspense, intrigue, and thrill are dull and lackluster. It takes an exceptionally long time to get to the point and tie all the loose ends together. I did appreciate the introduction of a new set of characters, the frank discussions about the treatment of non-White people (in particular the Sherpa people who are one of the Indigenous groups of Nepal, particularly known for leading expeditions on Mount Everest and other mountains in the Himalayas) and the discussion of people's treatments of Sherpas in Nepal by climbers who come to Everest. I felt the discussion was a bit lacking on the celebrity "takeover" of Everest and the very real problems that come along with that.

I finished the book because I wanted to know what happened, but in a 370ish page book, I expect it to take less than 200 pages for the story to pick-up and move along. Blomkvist spends a great deal of time dithering about (as per usual, to be honest) and it really detracts from the overall story.
