it didn’t focus on what I thought it would, but it was still very informative
Quite literally life changing. This should be a part of every child development or social work class. Or really every area in which you deal with people.

I’m very conflicted in how I feel about this book. On one hand, it provides a valuable insight into the profound effects of trauma, and the various methods that can be employed to address these. On the other hand, I found the tone of writing at times incredibly distasteful. Among these:
i. The author referring to the physical appearance of his female patients (e.g. ‘gorgeous’), despite this having absolutely no relevance to his point
ii. Infantilisation of patients - I hated the use of the term ‘temper tantrums’ throughout
iii. The inclusion of very explicit details of patient traumas, which did little to aid the explanations. This is especially pertinent given that one of the main target audiences of this book is trauma survivors themselves, who may find listening to these details particularly distressing.
Overall, while I have learnt a lot from this book, I would recommend that others wishing to learn about trauma seek an alternative to this book.

Heard some problematic things about the author and want to seek out better options for understanding C-PTSD
