I've been meaning to check out some of the other Golden Age mystery writers.  One of these days I am going to run out of Agatha Christie books, after all!  I'm sorry to say that my first try - the promising Dorothy L Sayers - left me a bit cold.  I found it cluttered and confusing after the light linear writing style of Agatha Christie (and the good narrators, I suppose).  I'm not going to write Sayers off entirely, but the next time I will pick up a copy of the book and try reading it instead of listening.  Perhaps that will help.

I feel I should have enjoyed this book more than I did, as it's the progenitor of a genre I like rather well -- the English aristocrat solving crimes as a sort of hobby. Instead, I find Lord Peter a sort of pastiche, not far off from Bertie Wooster, and the rest of the cast little better.

The first book in the Lord Peter Death Bredon Wimsey series. Introduces Parker and Sugg of Scotland Yard, Peter's gentleman's gentleman, Bunter, the delightful Dowager Duchess and others. It's very funny and very clever. She experiments with a kind of stream of consciousness, or stream of multiple conversations, in the second half of the book. Interesting. I wouldn't miss it if I were you!

Sayers first Whimsey novel. Much different than her later works. Still a 4 of 5.

I first met Lord Peter Wimsey in A Monstous Regiment of Women by Laurie R. King and was intrigued. He was at least as whimsical as I was expecting. I really enjoyed this, first of Dorothy Sayers that I have read. Looking forward to more in the new year (my currently reading is a bit out of control so I will address that first).
