How much can I say without spoiling it all? In this book we learn something big about Akkarin, Sonea's master. And something I did not see coming happened. I was all what?! Huh, ok I can deal with this. This is actually pretty good. Yes I went through some emotions here. And the end, that was the one part I did not like. It only made me sad.

Ok I am supposed to say anything? Something big happens...this is really hard. I can't say anything. Oh forget it all. I will try something else instead.

Characters: Sonea is good. I got surprised cos I started to like Akkarin.

Story. Like I said, big things are happening and there is quite the showdown.

Conclusion: I saw that there is another series about Sonea taking part like 20 years after this or something. I do want to read that one too. I'd like to see how Sonea fares :)

If I read this 10 years ago, I'd probably have enjoyed this a lot more. The plot and the characters are already too obtuse for me at this point. And seriously, does Sonea have to be romantically involved with every guy she spends some time with?

This trilogy had potential though, there are a lot of good elements to the story that could have been unraveled more skillfully and explored more deeply.

The final leg of this book was the best of the three so far, but at the end, I found myself not interested in the fates of anyone, nor the world in which they lived. The book was entertaining, but the dialogue and characters were not interesting enough to have an emotional connection. All the enemies are just bad guys without a great backstory. There is no POV so they just show up, fight and if they died, eh, who cares?

4.5 stars.

Beautiful last book for this series, even if I don't approve the death of Akkarin, the best character in my opinion and the only one who could have given a more structured and complex epilogue.

By for the rest I really enjoyed this trilogy.

Meh. The story was interesting, relied heavily on clichés and standard plot twists, but I liked how she twisted them and made them her own. The characters remained 2-dimensional throughout the trilogy, and I never found myself relating to or caring for them. I think a large part of that is in the way she shifted perspective between the characters to tell the story: she never remained on one character long enough to get a real sense of emotion, only actions.

I don't regret reading this, and would like to hunt down the standalone prequel & sequel, but not something I would recommend first or highly.
