Okay this was a true 4.5/5 stars but it was honestly just fun to read. I guess I’m supposed to feel bad for women for liking this book but i mainly liked the writing style and how it really just jumped around (or like lapses in the story) so it was really hard to put down. In terms of romanticizing manliness and chaos it definitely does that but at least the main guy is scared of his own creation (which he definitely needs to be). Anyways I think it is not realistic in anyway but what made me put 5 stars instead of 4 is the afterword by the author was really interesting and really fills out his perspective of writing such a well loved but well criticized book. I really want to watch the movie and read his other books now. So interesting!!

one of the most skilled writers out there. big up.

Huh. Well. I can’t say it wasn’t compelling, as on my second attempt at picking this up I read it in one sitting. This is definitely an intriguing & to some extent unique story.

There is a certain level of misogyny & white male victimization that oozes from this novel. I understand that to some extent this provides some sort of commentary on capitalism but that combined with the twist removes a lot of the depth from this book.

My feelings are very mixed but broadly icky.

DID NOT FINISH: 46%

not my type in books. it's extremely boring and author definitely wrote it for boys who think they can think. in my experience, boys who think they're some shit like this book. 1/10 only cuz of the interesting movie and helena bonham carter.

When I finished this I was kind of like: Okay!

Interesting to read this already knowing the big plot twist - surely I picked up on things I otherwise would not have.
