Could not put it down. Very devil wears prada-esque. Thankfully enough to notice it but not so much that it was obnoxious. Still very much its own story.
omg such a struggle
WHY do so many books at the moment start strong and then quickly decline into the most boring stories literally ever?? first 50 ish percent was fine - i was intrigued by the story and where it was going, and enjoyed the slower pacing and slow burn of Ally and Dom's relationship. then all of a sudden by like 60% i was like huh... i'm actually SO bored. i actually struggled to even get through the last few hundred pages and ended up skimming like the whole thing.
actually such a shame because this book had potential and i was genuinely hyped for an office romance with enemies to lovers vibe but it just didn't hit :( perhaps my own fault i'm not sure i wasn't in the right mindset during the latter half of the book but i ended up just wanting it done and to read something else, and then i got infuriated because it was like 500+ pages long which is just too long for any romance tbh

This book did not need to be over 500 pages long.
Dominic and Ally are both the most immature late 30s/40s year olds I’ve ever read about.
Also Ally is a stronger woman than me because if I was the one during that third act breakup I would’ve seriously blown a gasket. No forgiveness left

By a Thread has all the classic tropes that romance readers love enemies to lovers workplace tension a broody billionaire and a strong yet struggling heroine. Ally is a hardworking woman juggling multiple jobs while caring for her father with dementia. Dominic is the grumpy creative director with major control issues and emotional baggage from his toxic father. Their chemistry is undeniable and the banter between them is sharp and fun
There are definitely moments that shine. Ally’s sass and resilience are easy to root for and Dom’s slow realization that he wants to be better than the man he grew up fearing gives his character some depth. Him connecting through email near the end was one of the more charming parts of the story and there is no denying the passion between them.
But the book also felt overwhelming at times. The drama just kept coming and some of it bordered on the unbelievable. The strip club scene, the constant push and pull, and the repeated self sabotage made their relationship feel more chaotic than romantic. Dom’s emotional immaturity and Ally’s refusal to accept help even when she clearly needed it were frustrating.
It is a messy slow burn with lots of emotional weight and complicated characters. While it did have a satisfying ending the journey to get there sometimes felt more exhausting than enjoyable. If you like your romances intense angsty and full of fire this one might be for you. Personally I wanted more balance and less chaos.

Really 3.5/5 ⭐️
Who acts like this..? But also I finished it so apparently it wasn’t all that bad.

i’m gonna be honest, not a big fan of the fact that they were in their 40’s, they were literally almost my parents ages. i just imagined them as late 20’s and mid thirties instead which suited me just fine.
