Actually, it was not okay. I don't know if it's my annual pre-summer-break exhaustion-fest or the book itself, but I could not complete it because I could not keep up with who the main characters were and why I should care about most of them. By the time I'd read the first 1/4-1/3 of the book, I was worn out from trying to follow them and the narrator's veiled hints that might not be explained for another 100 pages or more. So I gave up and took it back to the library. When I want historians doing time travel, I'll stick with Connie Willis, thank you very much.

This was enjoyable and I look forward to the next books where there is already established lore. Some points were a bit confusing. For instance, I thought Max had only been at St. Mary's for at most a year, until she talked about leaving after 5 years. Small inconsistencies like that I'm worried may make a bigger impact with later books. This book had some silly moments and am overall funny basis. However, there are serious things that happen on the badge. I was not prepared to feel as much as I did! I wouldn't say this is a light or easy read due to some repeating themes around assault. However, it was enjoyable and I look forward to reading more.
Thought I'd give it a try--I think I paid $1.99 for a kindle version on Amazon, and I barely got my money's worth. Just not that engaging. Won't be reading the numerous sequels.
The "tea soaked disaster magnets of St Mary's" rattle around history. This book is a delightful read. Madeleine Maxwell a historian joins St Mary's and finds out that this group of historians don't study history, they visit history. Time travel is real. Grand adventure with that proper british je ne sais quoi; and tea.
I want to read more of this series and this author.

I was all in for about 450 pages, and then it went from Connie Willis fanfic to plagiarism and I got annoyed. It’s only a few points but they are pretty key points, so consider this Willis meets The Librarians. It’s fun but FULL of holes and paradoxes and needed a better editor. And I’ll still download book 2, in hopes that having gotten this episodic, not very original, slapdash set up done Taylor will use her creativity and voice to tell a stronger second story.
