It was okay
the characters were very cliche
Jess was such a boring character
Hugh seemed nice but also shallow
i honestly didn't expect the ending
pretty good book though had good words

let me tell you, when i opened this book and found out a characters name was clementine-tangerine, i was about to throw this book out of the window.
i didn’t though, and it kept on getting worse: gen z references were FLOODING ME. when i tell you i was so close to actually crying—

well, and then i got kind of intrigued by the whole mystery. even though the hints were not really subtle, they still confused me.

unfortunately, the ending and resolution were disappointing. i hoped for
the clues to be connected and form a huge plan and actually make sense, but instead it was like SIKE, CLEM PLANTED THEM ALL AND THEY MEANT NOTHING

themes of racism and injustice were just kinda thrown in there, but it felt so inauthentic and basic at the same time…bad execution.

intriguing but disappointing (and cringe to say the least)

I liked the writing. It was easy to follow the story and Jess‘ narrative was entertaining throughout the whole story. I actually liked the MC which in most cases is very rare. I think what made the book so great is that most of the important(!) characters were all fully „developed“. They had their own personality and all. Except for tommy. I didn’t directly dislike him but imo he was just the classical „mc needs a love interest and it’s the nice guy that helps her throughout the story“-trope. He was just nice. I can’t think of any other words to describe this character. Even Hugh (who‘s dead since the first chapters) has more personality than tommy. Anyway I had somewhat predicted the ending or suspected who the murderer would be but the ending was still not too obvious. In total: 4.5
-0.5 because of Tommy’s personality

I really enjoyed how well this was set up. The red herrings in the book were abundant and so purposeful that it was a surprise across the board when the evil mastermind was finally ousted. The clues where there all along, but with everything going on, it still sneaks up on you.

There's a side story about friendship and finding your own worth in there, subtle and very well done, without ever coming across as preachy. The characters unique and coming alive on the page.

Really enjoyed it.
