BRUH.
WHEN I TELL YOU THAT I HATED THIS BOOK FOR THE FIRST 40%, I MEAN IT.
Darien's accent is BONKERS and the reason why alot of people hate or can't read this book... and SO VALID BABES. IT'S SO FUCKING IRRITATING. I'd rather have scraped my fingernails down a chalkboard, then listen to his accent (even just in word form.)

And once I hate a book, it's game over.

Short yet highly effective! The characters felt complex and real and I enjoyed watching them grow through the messy decisions. I also really enjoyed the proses. It brings up a lot of themes around mental health and class. It doesn’t have any strong messaging more presenting ideas and leaving the reader to make what they will of them. Will definitely reread at some point in the future.

4.5

Audiobook was definitely the right way to go with this one; I am not wholly sure I’d have enjoyed it as much in text even though I am a big fan of Alexis Hall’s writing style. Will continue this series as the audios are released for sure.

Darian had such a kind and generous heart, he was almost too good to be true.

I hope Niall finds his own glitter pirate. He deserves one too.

It was a decent subway read. Hall’s other books are better though.

I wasn't expecting to like this book. But I did! I LOVED it ...

This was one of the best books of the year for me. It is unexpectedly good and brilliantly written. I loved pretty much everything about it -- strong characterization, powerful and emotionally engaging, funny ... the pacing is perfect and didn't drag. I literally fell in love with Ash ("babes") and Darian ("the glitter pirate") in this unique and endearing little romp. I didn't want it to end ... ever ... it was so good!

I loved the setting, the regional/class differences, and the Essex accent. ... I don't know much about mental illness but thought it was well portrayed and added an interesting dimension and complexity to the story. I'm not sure if this is intended to be a series but I would read Glitterland #2 without hesitation. There is a free supplement available from the Riptide publisher's website that I devoured promptly after finishing this book. I will definitely read more books by this author ...

I cannot say enough about this book and that is why it gets a rare, much-deserved 5 star rating.
