This graphic novel is hard to describe.

I thought it was wonderful; the juxtaposition between the beauty of the illustrations and the morbid, bizarre world and story. I know some reviewers thought the story was terrible and too gruesome and weird, but that's right up my alley. I was taken by surprise a lot of the oddities kept going and the look remained as beautiful and intriguing throughout.

My one qualm would be the ending, there were SO many questions I had about what has happening throughout the story and none of them got answered. It didn't take down a star in the rating because it was clearly done on purpose, not an oversight of the writer. We make our own conclusions and take from the odd surroundings to create answers to the stream of questions.

I hope there's a sequel or at least more work from this writer and illustrator combo in the future.

If surprisingly dark and gruesome is your thing you'll probably love this... me not so much.

It's just definitely not for me, in so many ways. I have no ideas what's going on. I think it's supposed to be a social commentary on something but what...not sure. Violence, loss, evil???? There's like no real connection to what's going on and what I persume is connected is vague and unclear. I don't really know what's happening her and everyone's a jerk and it's kind of gross. I feel like it was supposed to be good but.. wasn't...definitely not for me.

Delightfully creepy little fairy tale.

Dark and whimsical. Kind and cruel. Thoughtful and thoughtless. This story is like a fairy tale from the Grimm brothers. I really enjoyed it.

An exceptionally well written and illustrated graphic novel. The story is a dark twist on fairy tales and both disturbing and enjoyable.

Might actually be like a 4.5 but I'm going to sleep on it.

Edit: After sleep, I've decided on that 4.5 rating. I thought the artwork was extraordinary in this. And it was both charming and disturbing, which is a hard thing to pull off. Definitely dark and strange and fabulous.

How very, very dark and disturbing...
But my, what stunning albeit horrific-at-times artwork.

Well, that was...weird. Beautiful, but weird. And gross.
