overall well written and entertaining however the main character was pretty unlikeable most of the time and made a heap of really frustrating decisions. definitely seemed to also play into a lot of stereotypes that felt a bit weird even though they were kinda acknowledged 🤷‍♀️

A very funny story with some very moving moments. Gina/George is a well developed and interesting character. They are complex and fascinating, it's funny but also moving at times.
The author delivers a funny and compelling story that I recommend.
Recommended.

Every character in this book annoyed me. George/Gina is a really frustrating protagonist throughout - her grief and trauma about the loss of her dad isn't really explained or dealt with until the last few chapters (despite being heavily hinted about throughout), her decisions are often terrible, and she treats everyone around her like bit parts in her own melodrama. Her relationship with Doug was written really one-dimensionally, which meant it was hard to see why she was torn as they didn't seem particularly happy. The story seems to lean into stereotypes about the queer community and there is some really biphobic language - I think the author was trying to satirise/critique these elements but I'm not sure it quite worked. The ending is good but it almost felt too neat after the messiness of the rest of the book.

A fun book but the way bisexuality was written appeared biphobic more than supportive. The main character has never been with a woman and the "you're not bi until you try" mentality is damaging for so many and this book doesn't help. Also, although physically the main character doesn't cheat, I viewed the feelings she had for Kit and the way she kept it secret from her boyfriend still counted as cheating. This just further amplifies the negative stereotype that bisexual people are "greedy", "can't chose" and are cheaters.

Also the phrase "look at that ickle woofer" actually made me want to throw up.
