4.5. Amazing book! It’s amazing to me how many stories about WWII there still are to be told. How such a disaster as this can be forgotten by history is alarming. Beautifully told. And I loved the connection to her 1st novel, Between Shades of Grey!

I finished this book last night and absolutely loved it! I had only meant to read a couple pages last night but I literally could not put it down! Let me just start by saying Ruta Sepetys is such a talented writer! Last year I read Between Shades of Gray and fell in love with the way Ruta’s historical fiction was so captivating! Then I read this and I officially think it’s safe to say Ruta is one of my favorite authors! I fell in love with the characters immediately (well most of them anyways) and absolutely loved being able to get the different perspectives throughout the story! And not only that but I got to learn about a pretty unknown event in history. This book is absolutely amazing 10 out of 10 recommend!

I feel lost and sad and don't know how to breathe right now. It's real horror what happenend when the Wilhelm Gustloff sank and I'm not able to imagine how traumatic it had to be for the people who were involved. We get just a glimpse of a feeling from Ruta Sepetys how it really felt and it's shocking and fascinating simultaneously. Ruta Sepetys did a great job here and if you are into historical fiction you should definitely read it!
