I was excited to go into this dystopian apocalypse world, but it was really about found family and love. Which I don't mind but the reason why I wanted to read this book was because of the journey. In a way I did get a journey, but I wish there was more to the world and the characters.

Overall, although it was bit shorter than I would have liked, this dystopian cult story is truly interesting.

I received an ecopy of this book via Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own.

This was definitely one of those YA books that is really best read by actual YA readers, as it was just a little too young and basic for me. I think it would be great starter read for those who are questioning a strict religious upbringing and struggling with becoming their own person. Check out my full review at Forever Young Adult.

Not much action. Was looking forward to an interesting dystopian plot. Well, it takes place in our future where few babies are born, but this book really could've been set in any time. Apolcalyptic setting was not even a factor. So unrealistic how quickly Ami adapted to her new surroundings, family, friends and culture. Did not like much about it except for the message that love is love.

2.5 stars, rounded up.
I liked this book, but I didn't love it like I wanted to. I liked the growth and self-discovery that Ami underwent, and I liked the actual story, but I just didn't connect to any of it in a real way.

Super promising dystopian novel, kinda fizzled out at the end. Or maybe I just wasn't that emotionally invested

It's an honor to live in the Compound, the only safe place left after the barren plague swept the world. Ami knows that, just as she's always known her destiny is to procreate as soon as she's able. But when the time comes, she finds it hard to allow it.

It's hard to summarize this book, because it is so many things. It's a look at a world a long way from here, a hundred years into an almost total plague of barrenness. It's a look at women in cults and how hard it can be to forget the lessons we learn in childhood. It's a beautiful coming of age story. And though I can't say it's exactly fun, I really enjoyed it.

Post apoc is my favourite genre and I really enjoyed looking at this one, at how two different groups have reacted; one by drawing in, being smaller and insular, and one by opening themselves to others, being friendly and welcoming and blossoming as a result. It's a look at what people thought was important, years into this slow apocalypse.

I loved reading about Ami's slow acceptance of a wider world and a different way of thinking, that she didn't just jump straight into believing what her new friends did. I'd love to read more set in this world, but if this is all we get, I'm happy with it.

I feel like the idea of this book was good, but executed poorly unfortunately. The summary of thebook happens in just like...the first chapter. The pacing of the book is very wonky, with the first half of the book going insanely fast and the second half going very slow.

I also felt that the MC changing her ideals SO FAST was unrealistic. This girl grew up with like...what 8 people for 16 years? And she's able to change her ideas of life in like...a week? I mean good for her but like I said, just seems unrealistic.

Also sometimes the book delved into these page long like...preaching/speechy types of talks between two characters that just would jolt me out of the book world. They just didn't feel like natural conversations between two characters.

Thankful for receiving an ARC giveaway!
I loved this book! An intriguing YA fiction about a young girl, Ami, leaving her family’s cult and embarking on a world different than what she was told it would be. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and found them believable and likable (when we’re supposed to like them!). An easy and exciting read, I finished it in 2 days because I couldn’t put it down.

I really hate giving one stars...especially with genres I enjoy. But sadly this just didn't feel quite complete - like it needed more development, more editing, more time.
