This book was life changing. Love it so mutch it gave me hope, rufus and mateo is so cute togeter
I enjoyed the concept of this story. Being given the gift of knowing you will die in less than 24 hours can be the greatest gift. Knowing that you won't die in the next 24 hours can be the biggest curse. It's how you use it that matters.
The pairing of Rufus and Mateo could have been fantastic. Their adventures were entertaining and they learned valuable lessons from one another. My biggest issue with the story was that some things simply hard to believe. Rufus started off the story beating his ex-girlfriends new boyfriend into the ground, he even says if he hadn't gotten the call he could have killed him. Then he spends the rest of the story trying way too hard convince us "that isn't him". When he isn't talking about wanting to punch things. Yet he never truly shows up in any real way he's not an angry person who likes beating up people/things. Liking french toast doesn't make you a good guy.
Then you've got this paranoid kid who hardly ever leaves his house. And yet he is so ready to be ok with Rufus running from the cops. Just because he wants to truly live his last day.
Lastly, there were some minor continuity issues for me. Suddenly without ever hearing them referenced as such, Mateo starts calling Rufus' foster family his Plutos. They also never explained why the people who received a call are called Deckers, and it bugged me the entire book. My last thought is that it felt like the author was listening to Stan on repeat (or maybe just Eminem) when writing this book.

enjoyable read, really cool idea about how the world would change if death cast existed. some parts were slow and it felt like forever before I got through them. wasn’t as emotional or heart wrenching as I’d hoped, but good story

The cover doesn’t lie.
But seriously, it’s not a bad book, but after you’ve actually read the end there’s no point in rereading it.

The last 100 pages were the best i love it, but the start is very slow and boring
