“I needed all of him, not parts of him, not slices. All of him. His darkness included. My insides were on the outside of my body. I’d never felt as exposed as I did now. I hated it.”
“You run and I’ll burn the whole world down for you.”
After reading A Dirty Business, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Ashton, but I am happy to report that not only did Ashton win me over, he exceeded my expectations and made me a believer.
A Cruel Arrangement is the second book in the Kings of New York series and picks up right where the last book left off, only instead of continuing Jess and Trace’s story, we get to know Molly and Ashton. Everyone is still reeling from the events of the last book and is looking for answers and hoping for some peace. But, when someone threatens Molly’s livelihood. She finds herself tangled up in a situation she never expected…
Overall, I found this book to be a really enjoyable read. I loved getting to know Molly and Ashton. When you first meet Molly, you think she’s this sweet and innocent woman, but when you’ve had a gun pulled on you as much as she has, a switch gets flipped and her dark side gets unleashed. And Ashton certainly met his match with Molly. Being the head of the mafia, Ashton’s darkness and ruthlessness are unparalleled. He’s not Molly’s biggest fan or mine for that matter, but he 100% won me over. Molly’s acceptance and crazy personality brought much-needed light into Ashton’s life. The chemistry between Molly and Ashton was off the charts. I loved their history and banter, the unexpected moments, and twists that led to one heck of a love story.
A Cruel Arrangement is an action-packed, enemies-to-lovers romance that is sure to keep readers on the edge of their seats, dying for more. I enjoyed every moment of this story from beginning to end and couldn’t get enough of the wild ride this author took me on. A Cruel Arrangement certainly checked off everything I was looking for and I can’t wait to see what this series has in store for us readers next.

Book picks up exactly where book 1 ended. I loved reading everything from Ashton’s perspective and how deeply he truly loves the people who matter to him, as well as the depths that he will go to to protect them.
please note that the trigger warnings and topes/themes may contain spoilers
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
FMC: Molly-an entrepreneur and owner of a local bowling alley… at least that’s what she always thought until Ashton came in and changed her life. According to Ashton, her dad, Shorty Easter, owed a debt and gambled away much of Molly’s life and possessions to set himself straight. Now Molly will do anything to get what’s rightfully hers, even going as far as to make an arrangement with the local Mafia boss to get it. The only problems? She’s had a crush on Ashton since they were kids, and she keeps getting guns pointed at her.
MMC: Ashton- the leader of the local mafia who is known for torturing and getting what he wants. What he never sees coming is how attached and protective he becomes to Molly after being in her presence for only a short time. They met when they were kids and she’s always had a sort of hold on him, but she’s always been just far enough away for it to not be on his mind. Now that he has to protect her after being held at gunpoint there’s no turning back.
POV: 1st person, dual POV
HEA: yes
spice: several-door spicy scenes
TWs: death of a parent from murder (recounted), death of parent by drugs (recounted), manipulation, murder, torture, kidnapping, attempted murder
standalone: book 2 of Kings of New York series, but can be read as a standalone
final thoughts: the writing took me a minute to get into and it wasn’t always my favorite, but the story was captivating, and I loved the dynamic of the couple. He understood that she was a strong independent woman but has also gone through a lot of trauma and he was so cute and understanding… as much as he doesn’t like to be portrayed that way. I love the way he takes care of her, especially during the slowburn aspect.

I really liked the first one of this series so was excited to read this one. I love Molly and Ashton a lot but Molly had me so angry every time she ran away! Very excited to see what comes next in this series
I was so looking forward to Ashton's story but book 2 didn't meet my expectations at all. I wanted the Ashton from book 1 (which I rated 4⭐️) and I didn't care for Molly who was so dumb it was no wonder she had a gun pointed at her literally every five minutes. The one star is solely for Ashton and Trace's bromance, which is the only reason I didn't DNF this book after the first couple of chapters.
Note: not a standalone.

I was looking forward to Ashton's story but it didn't meet my expectations at all. Ashton was very different and not as charismatic as in the first book (which I rated 4⭐️) , and I couldn't care less for Molly, who was so dumb it was no wonder she had a gun pointed at her every 5 minutes. Zero chemistry, no witty banter, even the secondary cast was boring. It's as if the two books were written by different authors. The one star is solely for Ashton and Trace's bromance, which is the only reason why I didn't DNF this book after the first couple of chapters.

A cruel arrangement by Tijan is the next part of the king of New York, this second book change from Trace and Jess to Molly and Ashton. I was a little bit surprise if you read book 1 and the epilogue you know why, but I totally enjoy this new couple they’re a detonated grenade, just the beginning and Molly is already serving us.
Jesse is my favorite but I really love Molly, she is my kind of female character took. Kelly Jesse and her would have made a badass team.
Mister Bad Guy I hated him but thanks to Molly I appreciate him more.If you were worried about Trace and Ashton relationship read it to know if it’s completely broken or else

A Cruel Arrangement by Tijan
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5/5)
Molly is the owner of Easter Lanes and estranged from her father. Ashton is the head of the Walden mafia family after the head members of his and the West family are murdered. Molly wants nothing to do with him despite her father being deeply in debt to them. However, after Easter Lanes is the site for an attempted robbery, Molly finds herself in danger and waking up in the home of Ashton Walden. To make matters worse, he reveals to her that she owes a lot more than just money to get her life and livelihood back.
This book is the second in the Kings of New York series. And although it’s a standalone, I cannot imagine reading this book without reading the first (A Dirty Business). First, the book starts 3 months after Book 1 ends. I also felt more connected to the intricate connections and interactions between the characters of both books because I had background knowledge.
Ashton was such an interesting character in Book 1 that I was excited for his own story. Molly is quirky, to say the least, but she matches Ashton. Their banter and slow burn romance was fun to watch unfold. Tijan does slow burn well. I’m not usually one for a slow burn, but the suspense side of the plot is well done, and the tension between Ashton and Molly comes at the right time that it was absolutely worth it. Again, I like how Tijan builds a mafia story that is believable and I believe that has a lot to do with the character building as well as this having a large suspense plot that is at the forefront of the story telling.
I cannot recommend this enough.
Tropes:
Bodygurad
Enemies to lovers
Escaping a killer
Fake Relationship
Grumpy/sunshine
Kidnapped
Mafia
Thank you to Tijan and Valentine PR for sending me an ARC of this book.

Tijan has introduced me to mafia romance and I am here for it all. “A Cruel Arrangement” is book 2 in the “Kings of New York”, and it’s about that second “king”, Ashton, the bestie and non-blood-related brother (cousin) to Trace in the previous book. Like Trace, Ashton is an intense, complex, mafia bad ass who does not offer an average romance with cotton candy and balloons.
Ashton has been beckoned to a business under the umbrella of his organized kingdom and said business is Easter Lanes, the bowling alley where our gals hung out in book 1, which is owned by Molly.
Or so she thought. The slap in the face news that Ashton gives her is that he is the rightful owner of it, and in order for Molly to get it, he has a cruel arrangement for her.
Cue open credits…
Ashton and Molly are pushed to the edge, they are challenged, and their loyalties are tested. I enjoyed watching Ashton try so hard to steer clear of Molly, a woman that he knows he shouldn’t have in his dangerous world. Molly, too, pines for him but spits harsh words in hopes to “hate” him, but there is something about him that makes her deny all that is practical. It took awhile but these two exuded down serious chemistry and shared some haaawt scenes both indoors and out.
I also liked watching some of the pent-up anger felt by previous characters that had to be dealt with in order for Ashton’s mafia family to work. Ashton is not all innocent and he has to come to terms with what he did. Oh and the Bromance…yes please.
You need to read book 1 to embrace the plot that will pull you into a frenzy. Tijan's writing will hook you, and you won’t be able to escape the hot romance between Ashton and Molly. If you like these themes, this series is definitely for you:
*Mafia
*Alpha and Anti-Hero
*Heroine in Danger
*Fake Relationship
*Bodyguard
*Opposites Attract
*Close Proximity
*Redemption
