Poetry can be hard to review…it speaks to specific people at specific times in their lives, and may only matter for that one significant moment before life moves forward. For me, right now, this is what I needed to read. The encouragement I need to keep going and growing. Thank you for sharing these words!
Thanks to Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the audio ARC of this! I loved the ebook when I read it and am obsessed with poetry read by the author, so I knew I had to listen before I get to the third one!
Gorgeous, empowering, and relatable, this is my favorite from this poet so far!
Poetry is something I have to convince myself to read more of, it isn’t the format I tend to pick up easiest. Lovelace’s feminist, relatable, easy to pick up poems are some of my favorites, and this installment did not let me down.
This was the most relatable so far, as I’m dealing with anxiety and depression, and I kept pausing to read one aloud or to just sit with one.
And the art...it’s magical and gorgeous and I loved every bit of it.
I loved the narration, it was really well done and added something special to hear how they were meant to be delivered.

Completely absolutely incredible, because how could it not be? Reading Amanda’s poetry always feels like talking on the phone with a dear long lost friend and this one is no different. I find myself taking picture after picture of the pages with beautiful words and illustrations so I can save them for later. I sent a few of my favorites to my partner and to my best friend as well because they need to know how beautiful her words are for themselves. I’ll always love Amanda’s poetry, I think, even when I’m gray and old.

My initial reaction in reading this was "this feels geared more toward white tween girls who may or may not be aromantic and/or asexual" because of the content is very straight forward, 101 feminism that would be new to a tween and it touches on those early insecurities and troubles young girls may go through. But then I realized that those tween girls deserve better written content. It's all affirmations where the metaphors appear contained in the titles of the poems and not the poems themselves.
This just more research for me in figuring out what types of poetry I do and don't like.
