I don’t give stars to memoirs because I feel like it’s weird to give star to someone’s life.
I did enjoy this book a lot. I feel like I learned a lot about Africa, particularly South Africa, and the apartheid. I feel like it was a very unique story that I haven’t heard before, but I really could tell that Trevor painted a picture of what typical life was during and after the apartheid, which was really interesting to read.
I also really felt like I could connect with Trevor, even though I don’t live in South Africa. Being a mixed kid and just having your identity be different than all those around you, was really refreshing to read. I really identified with a lot of his comments even though we’re from different countries and continents.
Overall it was a really good memoir. I still don’t know how I feel about his mom but clearly he has a great amount of love and respect for her. I just feel our backgrounds are so different that we judge parenting very differently.

I had no idea about Noah’s upbringing. What a story and a great listen by the author!! Love Trevor even more now.

We read this book aloud in our class, and it was interesting. I liked the book, but I’m not sure I would read it again. It helped me learn more about life in South Africa, and it had some funny stories in between. It wasn’t my favorite, but it was funny and I learned a lot.

This was another recommendation from a book club. DAMN. I had no idea all the shit Trevor dealt with through adolescence. It made me realize I take my cushy boring childhood for granted.
