DID NOT FINISH

Too much time passed between first book and me reading this one. I only started to read this series bc I wented to read six of crows

I have been waiting for some reason to get my hands on this second book after Shadow and Bone, but I am so happy that I have finally read it. Especially with such a pretty cover here.

Siege and Storm was much bigger I think that Shadow and Bone. It gave us a new problem and was so much more intense through the Shadow Fold and the Darkling. Everything had a dark sort of quality about it, even Alina as she struggles to find out what is the right thing to do with her sun summoning and finding out that those antlers around her neck aren't going to be her only amplifier for her magic to be used.

I told you, intense.

Besides all that though, I think I have to talk about Mal and the Darkling and all that stuff that happens in this book. For some reason, I don't hate Mal, but there is something about him that i cannot latch onto and love as apparently Alina does. From the first book until this one, I was sorta rooting for the Darkling to make a move even though I know he is the bad guy. I really like Mal and he gave me good reasons to like him as he is good for Alina in this book, but still...he isn't somehow my guy in a book that I have to love.

Even the new male character that comes into play right near the beginning and continued on to the very end appealed to me more. I was almost begging for Alina just to get closer to him and take the offers he gave her. Because I liked him. I do still. I know that she is probably going to end up with Mal, and I like Mal. But I certainly cannot feel myself in Alina's shoes loving him for some reason that I wish I knew.

Alina has really grow into power through this book. She is getting more power than she knows how to handle at some points and which raises the question within herself, will Mal understand? will Mal stay with her, or will he fear her? These questions I think were a major part of the book. Really a part that is still under question.

By the end though I get the feeling of what is going to happen in the last 3rd book, Ruin and Rising. Because even though I really love these books, for some reason I feel like Alina's journey isn't rising to herself to save the day. It is just a scavenger hunt for power now, literally.

VERDICT:
I think that I might have liked Siege and Storm even better than the first book, but I still feel something missing. Overall though, it was a great thrill ride with the characters through twists and turns and I am interested to see what happens next after a pretty near cliff hanger ending.
