It wasn’t about killing really, it was more about dating.

TW: SEXUAL ASSULT, RAPE, INCEST, PEDOPHILLIA

Hard read. It is advertised as this funny, lighthearted, easy read which is quirky. But the more you read the more awful and intense the story gets. Quite descriptive on all the aforementioned triggers which I didn’t expect to read in this novel. There was obviously the general idea that Kitty is killing men who harass women but it really delved into the horror that some people have actually experienced and turns it into this prerequisite for kitty to do what she does which trivialises real women’s experiences. It obviously does place the blame on men but I don’t think the book really discusses the important conversations around assault and sexism. Comes off as perfomative feminism.

There was a good few typos which always take you out of the immersion of a book.

Lots of storylines that makes the booked quite messy. It’s all over the place and I feel like the blurb never gave away what the story line was. It’s more about her and her stalker which seems to be the main plot point and will be the major twist but it seemed from the synopsis that she was a calculated serial killer and its about how she get away with crimes in intelligent way (as opposed to her friend covering for her.). It’s just an influencer doing shit. There’s no major back story (I know her dad hit her mum and was a bad person) but it’s just seems like there is no depth to the characters. Kitty and Charlies relationship also moved so fast. At least with her and Adam it was explained that they spent a few months with each other almost everyday but for her and Charlie it was quite literally a few dates, they ‘broke up’ and then they loved each other the next week apparently??? I hate this type of storyline that is not the most significant thing just happening in books with no meaning or depth.

The book was getting repetitive up until the 70% mark. Same motives, same murders, same cover ups. Kitty would have been caught sorry! Like she was so messy and there would have been traffic cameras and her always being linked to the men in some way. I also feel the Rueben murder was slightly random. Like that whole plot line of her now just feeling guilt and then deciding to stop murdering after having a mental breakdown just for her to murder James seemed kinda pointless and like well why did Rueben have to die. Also now Raphe just lives on and she doesn’t do anything? So why does she brand herself as this vigilante?

She also was an awful person. I mean she attacked Adam for cheating on her and left him permanently disabled then never visited him. I mean, I know cheating is terrible and heartbreaking but damn she has anger issues. That was a really sad part of the story and whilst I do appreciate showing that it didn’t always go kitty’s way and her actions do have consequences, It also made her so much more unlikeable than she already was. I also hated the constant designer name drops. I got it after the first 50 pages and didn’t care. I get it was to show that she is a rich influencer but like, I didn’t care for it and found it quite cringe.

All together it was not that enjoyable and a book that left me feeling sad afterwards. I really do think there needs to be a warning for the topics discussed in detail as it almost made me put the book down :/
