Wow! Alex North did it again!

I will say the first 25% of the book was a bit confusing with all the characters, but once I was able to keep them straight this book was intense!

What a philosophical twist to family secrets and fate/human choice.

Basically the Shaws are a brother/sister duo that have been estranged for several years. Now the brother (Chris) is in trouble and needs help.

In addition, there are several evil characters trying to harm both of the Shaws and their respective partners/families. Why? And do they succeed?
A bit of an outlandish plot, but it is a fictional book. However, I really liked the philosophical component to this book which made me think a bit more about fate vs. choice.

I’m not sure this is my favorite AN book, but I really enjoyed it and would recommend to others!

I just reviewed The Angel Maker by Alex North. #TheAngelMaker #NetGalley

"If you could see the future, would you want to"

3, 3.5, 4. I am going with 4 because it's December, but it is a generous 4. To be honest this book is a little bit of a mess. The idea is great and I really liked the ending but the journey there is one strange trip. It really feels like something is missing, like something was taken out of the story, maybe to make it shorter. I don't know, it just felt like it was lacking something.

Think Alex North has set his bar quite high and this one falls a bit short of his previous two books.

I'm a fan of Alex North, so I was thrilled when I was approved for the audio ARC of his latest Thriller, The Angel Maker! Overall, this is a fantastic story with a large cast of characters. I do think it could have used more editing. I struggled to keep track of the timeline, which jumped around a lot, and I found I had to back up and relisten to many, many section to try to figure out if the events being described were happening currently or were in the past, because most of the time there was no indication of a change in the timeline and you were left to using context to figure it out. Very, very confusing for me. I kept thinking if I had the physical book, this would have been much easier with the ability to bookmark, flip back and forth, make notes on the pages, etc. Same with some of the characters that I initially would get confused (2 of the characters' names changed at one point in the story, then with the jumps in the timeline, it was hard to keep track of who was who). Other than all of those issues though, I really did thoroughly enjoy the plot and storyline. Once it was over and I had a bit to sit with it for a minute, and think back on how everything worked out and the sequence of events (in chronological order, not the order it was written), it was genius. Had I read the physical book instead of listening to the audiobook, I might not have been so confused. The narrator was great. And I will continue to read everything Alex North writes! 3.5 stars rounded down to 3.

Fans of The Whisper Man and The Shadows are going to L-O-V-E The Angel Maker! I certainly did, and it added to my spooky season reading. More thoughts closer to pub in February.

I received a gifted copy.

dark fast-paced

Similar in creepy content and bizarre happenings to the prior Alex North books but not quite as thrilling and page turning. It intersects two families one the descendants of a horrible man and the other a family that has struggled with addiction. Just didn’t resonate as much as the other books.
3.5 rounded up.
I was given a copy by Netgalley opinions are my own.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGally for an honest review. I have read all of Alex North's books so far so I was excited for this one. As usual it was definitely not a disappointment. It was fast paced and kept me guessing.(trying to figure out the connections was maddening at first). The timelines did throw me off a bit but I absolutely loved how it all came together at the end. I enjoyed the characters and the fact that none of them were very reliable. I would recommend this to others.

2.5

I threw in the towel at 49.1% of the way in. Having said that, I may give it another go with a paper or kindle copy, rather than the audio version provided by Netgalley. The reader is wonderful and I enjoyed her narration. And I've always enjoyed Alex North prior to this. But, this. Utterly confusing (and from a couple other reviews, it doesn't seem to be just me.) The author can throw in all the determinism he wants. Saying all things are as they were destined to be does not change the fact that the entire story hinges on a coincidence that is just too big for me to swallow. Maybe it is eventually explained satisfactorily, but at 72, I'm too old to spend this much time with a whole cast of characters I pretty much dislike.
